This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Supervise Utility User Tax audit activities to guarantee accurate, efficient, and prompt completion.
• Interpret and apply tax laws and regulations to intricate audit scenarios.
• Act as the ultimate authority on audit conclusions and tax law application concerns.
• Evaluate and authorize audit outcomes, reports, and suggestions.
• Create, implement, and oversee the annual audit budget.
• Track expenses and ensure financial accountability.
• Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Assess workflow, staffing, and productivity to enhance efficiency and resource distribution.
• Recruit, train, mentor, and assess audit personnel.
• Provide recommendations and make decisions on hiring, promotions, and terminations.
• Coordinate and manage legal representation for audits challenged in court.
• Collaborate with legal advisors on facts, documentation, and audit positions during formal proceedings.
• Maintain client relationships through effective communication, site visits, and professional consultations.
• Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and relevant laws.
• Identify and execute process enhancements.
• Offer strategic guidance and leadership for departmental and organizational goals.
• Exhibit compliance with company policies and regulations.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.
• Travel as necessary.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• 5-12 years of relevant experience in utility user tax.
• In-depth knowledge of state and local tax laws, regulations, statutes, and procedures.
• Comprehensive understanding and experience in corporate accounting, direct and indirect transactional taxes, and various business accounting functions.
• Capability to analyze tax-sensitive general ledger accounts.
• Intermediate to advanced tax research abilities.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and excellent analytical skills.
• Competence in organizing, planning, and directing.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Capacity to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the Company.
• Proficient knowledge of Accounting Systems and Microsoft Office.
• CPA or CIA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Preferred knowledge or experience in state and local tax.
• Must be able to remain stationary for the majority of the day.
• Must consistently operate a computer and other office productivity equipment.
• Must occasionally navigate within the office environment.
• Frequently engage in communication via telephone.
