Senior Machine Learning Engineer – Private Search Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Develop, assess, and enhance machine learning ranking models for private, team, and brand content searches.

• Enhance relevance and recall with a focus on outcomes for enterprise users.

• Engage in intelligent result comprehension, search recovery, and precise title matching.

• Contribute to indexing through the use of ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, vector search, and annotation technologies.

• Broaden the quality and coverage of private and brand search within agent-driven search environments.

• Examine and address issues related to production search quality or relevance regressions.

• Manage scoped projects from initial problem framing to measurable impact delivery.

• Conduct experiments and refine approaches based on insights gained.

• Collaborate effectively with Backend Engineers.

• Articulate technical trade-offs and disseminate knowledge throughout the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience in building and deploying machine learning systems in a production environment.

• Ideally, experience in search, ranking, learning to rank (LTR), or relevance.

• Capability to define and enhance metrics related to relevance, recall, and ranking quality.

• Proficiency in taking scoped projects from concept to delivered outcomes with minimal supervision.

• High degree of autonomy and comfort in ambiguous situations.

• Ability to communicate technical trade-offs effectively, including to stakeholders without technical backgrounds.

• Familiarity with machine learning ranking models, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, vector search, and annotation techniques.

• Eagerness to learn; specific educational qualifications are not required.
