Senior Linux, Infrastructure Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Engineer, scale, and maintain the foundational Valassis DMT platform environment.

• Design, develop, and sustain declarative Puppet and Ansible configuration modules.

• Automate system provisioning, application deployment, and ensure continuous compliance across both bare-metal and virtualized nodes.

• Administer, tune, and troubleshoot enterprise Linux environments, focusing mainly on Ubuntu.

• Conduct kernel optimization, enhance security measures, and improve uptime.

• Operate and optimize virtualization and hypervisor layers including OpenStack, LXD, KVM, and ESXi.

• Lead the automated provisioning of bare-metal servers.

• Manage and maintain persistent storage infrastructure, encompassing physical SAN equipment, PureStorage, and enterprise S3-compatible targets.

• Execute platform refreshes, decommission legacy environments, and facilitate infrastructure migrations across data center footprints.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering field, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least 5–7+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in Linux infrastructure engineering, systems administration, and cloud infrastructure automation.

• Expert-level hands-on experience in engineering, hardening, and maintaining enterprise Ubuntu/Debian server environments.

• Proven expertise in authoring custom Puppet modules and Ansible playbooks/roles.

• Strong foundation in bare-metal provisioning concepts and hypervisor/container runtimes, including KVM, LXD, and ESXi.

• Understanding of enterprise storage architectures, encompassing SAN/NAS devices, block/object storage concepts, and volume management.

• Working knowledge of cross-platform Active Directory integration, enterprise PKI/certificate enrollment, and domain identity services.

• Hands-on experience with OpenStack deployments is preferred.

• Direct experience with Ceph storage clusters is preferred.

• Hands-on experience with Canonical MAAS or similar platforms is preferred.

• Familiarity with MicroCloud deployment and lightweight cloud infrastructure environments is preferred.
