Senior Legal Counsel, Privacy & Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the principal legal advisor concerning privacy, data protection, information security, and AI-related issues.

• Manage intricate negotiations with customers and vendors that involve privacy, data protection, information security, AI, HIPAA, and various specialized legal and regulatory obligations.

• Formulate practical strategies that mitigate legal risks while fostering customer relationships and ensuring timely deal closure.

• Convey complex legal and regulatory concepts to internal teams and articulate Alteryx's stance to customers, their legal counsel, and privacy and security teams.

• Foresee objections and recurring points of contention, resolving them independently or in collaboration with colleagues and senior staff.

• Review and negotiate vendor agreements related to privacy, security, AI, HIPAA, and data utilization.

• Collaborate with Procurement, Information Security, business leaders, and Legal teams to evaluate risks, implement safeguards, and address escalated issues.

• Develop and sustain standardized agreements, addenda, and supporting documentation, including Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), security descriptions and standards, HIPAA Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), and AI terms.

• Revise templates to reflect regulatory changes, negotiation insights, and modifications in Alteryx's products and operations.

• Create and maintain customer-oriented privacy, data usage, security, and compliance documentation.

• Establish and uphold internal policies, negotiation playbooks, and practical guidance.

• Translate legal requirements and approved risk positions into standardized processes for consistent decision-making.


⛳️ Requirements

• Licensed attorney authorized to practice in one or more U.S. states.

• Member in good standing of one or more state Bars.

• Valid license to practice law in the state of employment.

• Over seven years of experience as in-house legal counsel.

• Significant experience in negotiating privacy, data protection, and information security provisions in enterprise software agreements, representing both customers and vendors.

• Extensive knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, U.S. state privacy regulations, and international transfer mechanisms.

• Familiarity with information security standards and frameworks, HIPAA, and emerging AI regulations.

• Proven track record in drafting and managing contract templates, playbooks, policies, and public privacy documents.

• Solid understanding of best practices concerning internal controls, procedures, risk management, and escalation processes.

• Exceptional oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication abilities.

• Strong negotiation capabilities.

• Proficient in articulating complex legal issues and resolutions in a clear and concise manner.

• Ability to establish credibility across all levels of the organization.

• Demonstrated analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills.

• High ethical standards and a commitment to professional responsibility.

• Capacity to take on significant responsibilities and operate independently.

• Skillful in managing multiple priorities and delivering quality results under tight deadlines.

• Completion of one or more IAPP certifications (CIPP, CIPM, AIGP) is preferred.
