This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Direct the engineering and design of transmission and distribution substation projects for utility, renewable energy, and industrial clientele.
• Offer technical guidance and oversight for substation physical design, protection and control integration, grounding systems, equipment layouts, and power delivery infrastructure.
• Assist in the development and review of one-line diagrams, protection schemes, equipment specifications, construction packages, and design documentation.
• Utilize engineering expertise throughout planning, conceptual design, detailed design, procurement, and construction support phases.
• Aid engineering studies involving grounding, equipment sizing, fault current evaluations, and substation design.
• Remain updated on technologies, standards, and utility practices related to substation, grid modernization, and power delivery.
• Establish standards across processes and practices.
• Lead engineering activities and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
• Assist in project planning, resource allocation, technical reviews, and execution of projects.
• Provide technical oversight for substation upgrades, expansions, brownfield modifications, and greenfield projects.
• Collaborate with project managers to identify and mitigate potential risks.
• Support construction with technical consultation, design clarifications, and resolution of field issues.
• Build and maintain relationships with utility, renewable energy, and industrial clients.
• Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, presentations, and project reviews.
• Assist in proposal development, scope definition, cost estimation, and pursuit efforts.
• Identify opportunities to enhance services and strengthen partnerships with clients.
• Work together with regional and national teams on strategic growth initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and designers, fostering technical development and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, transmission, protection and control, and program management teams.
• Contribute to best engineering practices and continuous improvement across the Energy sector.
• Promote technical excellence, innovation, safety, and collaboration.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with over 12 years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Proven experience supporting transmission and distribution substation projects.
• Strong background in electrical engineering principles, utility infrastructure, and power delivery systems.
• Experience in leading engineering tasks, reviewing technical deliverables, and coordinating project teams.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards and regulations.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, Aspen, CAPE, or similar software tools.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating in a remote setting.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project, client, and team requirements.

• Newly hired employees must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.
• Preferred: Advanced degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Preferred: Excellent communication, leadership, and client relationship skills.

• Preferred: Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership initiatives.
