Senior Kubernetes Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in the development, modernization, and migration of containerized and agentic workloads within a government multi-cloud setting, supporting over 70 customer tenants.

• Design and oversee the implementation of container-platform requirements and architecture utilizing Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

• Establish and manage Agentic Runtime for Kubernetes (ARK) to host AI-agent workloads.

• Act as the Tier 3 escalation point for intricate incidents and outages involving AKS and the ARK agentic-runtime environment.

• Analyze and resolve issues across AKS clusters, control plane, CNI networking, ingress, CSI storage, workload scheduling, ARK control plane, and ARK Custom Resources.

• Conduct root cause analysis on high-severity incidents and develop solutions to avert future occurrences.

• Handle high-priority incident communications with stakeholders, leadership, and affected tenants.

• Define and implement observability standards utilizing Azure Monitor, Managed Prometheus, Container Insights, Azure Log Analytics, and OpenTelemetry, including ARK agent-level telemetry.

• Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with clusters, node pools, and workloads.

• Evaluate performance, cost, and capacity trends, architecting optimizations for stability, efficiency, and security at scale.

• Oversee the management and maintenance of AKS clusters and the ARK agentic runtime across a multi-tenant environment of over 70 tenants.

• Deploy, upgrade, and operate ARK on Kubernetes, supervising CRDs, controllers, and model/tool integrations, including MCP servers.

• Ensure the security, FedRAMP compliance, and continuous optimization of tenant resources by enforcing Kubernetes RBAC, network policy, and Azure workload identity.

• Collaborate with the Architecture team on Azure Well-Architected Framework and Kubernetes best-practice solutions.

• Own and implement Change Management procedures.

• Lead incident intake, triage prioritization, and team workload management.

• Mentor and train Tier 2 engineers while conducting knowledge-transfer sessions.

• Enhance team metrics and service delivery in partnership with the Service Delivery Manager and Product Owner.

• Maintain documentation regarding incident response procedures, architectural decisions, and lessons learned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree with 6 years of experience, an Associate's degree with 10 years of experience, or a High School diploma/equivalent with 12 years of experience.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DHS Public Trust clearance.

• Experience in engineering and systems analysis with a strong hands-on focus on Kubernetes in production environments.

• Extensive practical knowledge of operating Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and the broader Kubernetes ecosystem, including control plane, CNI networking, ingress, CSI storage, RBAC, Helm, and workload scheduling.

• Hands-on experience in deploying and managing Agentic Runtime for Kubernetes (ARK) or similar Kubernetes-native agent/operator platforms built on the CRD-plus-controller model, including ARK Custom Resources and MCP/A2A integration.

• Proven expertise in incident management and root cause analysis within large-scale, multi-tenant government settings.

• Strong understanding of FedRAMP compliance as well as Kubernetes and Azure security best practices.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and technical documentation skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and senior stakeholders.

• Preferred: CKA or CKAD certification, along with AZ-104 or AZ-305 certification.

• Preferred: Proficiency in GitOps and Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, Bicep, Helm, Argo CD or Flux, and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

• Preferred: Advanced scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, or Go, including the ARK Python SDK.

• Preferred: Experience integrating LLM providers such as Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or local models within an agentic runtime.
