Senior Journalist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Discover, develop, and share stories that impact the communities of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Alberta.

• Create and report on stories for print, web, and mobile audiences, customizing content for each medium.

• Break news and deliver innovative reporting as an integral member of the news team.

• Craft both short- and longform articles for readers in the Strathcona County area and beyond.

• Build relationships with sources and establish expertise to shape the news agenda and uncover exclusive stories.

• Operate autonomously within a cooperative regional newsroom environment.

• Explore new storytelling techniques to engage both news and business readers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of experience in a daily news organization in a fast-paced, deadline-driven role.

• Proficiency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism, and social media.

• Capability to work swiftly and independently, manage multiple deadlines, and make effective decisions.

• Familiarity with and ability to contribute to print production as part of a team.

• Strong collaborative skills for functioning effectively within a newsroom team.

• Exceptional news and business reporting and writing abilities.

• Superior news judgment.

• Proven strengths in accurate and polished reporting.

• Demonstrated ability to generate story ideas and enterprise features.

• Knowledge of digital platforms for delivering breaking news and connecting with audiences.

• Comfort in filing stories for print, web, and mobile platforms under tight deadlines.

• Understanding of legal and ethical standards in journalism.
