Senior Java / React Full Stack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of features from inception to completion, encompassing backend service design, user interface development, technical design, and production deployment.

• Develop and maintain backend services using Java 21 / Spring Boot 3, exposing internal APIs through gRPC/Protobuf and, when appropriate, REST.

• Create user-facing features utilizing React/Next.js (TypeScript), ensuring seamless integration with backend APIs and adherence to established frontend conventions.

• Design and enhance relational data models within PostgreSQL, including schema migrations and optimizing query performance.

• Implement event-driven functionalities using Kafka when suitable.

• Make architectural decisions, define service boundaries, establish API contracts, and design data models and UI/state patterns that other engineers can build upon.

• Oversee and manage services on AWS, adhering to infrastructure patterns set by the DevOps team.

• Leverage AI coding tools to expedite daily development tasks, applying engineering judgment to validate, test, and amend AI-generated outputs as required.

• Develop automated tests across the entire stack and ensure quality through rigorous code reviews.

• Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to defining technical standards across both backend and frontend domains.

• Collaborate with product teams, customer support, and US-based leadership to convert business needs from Spanish-speaking stakeholders into delivered features.

• Engage in daily collaboration with US-based engineering leadership and Spanish-speaking business stakeholders throughout Latin America.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• A minimum of 6 years of professional software development experience encompassing both backend and frontend.

• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles.

• Practical experience with a statically typed backend language (Java highly preferred) and a relational database (e.g., PostgreSQL).

• Proven experience in building production user interfaces with React and TypeScript (including Tailwind, TanStack Query).

• Experience in designing and managing microservices-based, distributed systems in a production environment.

• Familiarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) to enhance development efficiency.

• Proficient with Git-based source control and collaborative code review processes (e.g., GitHub).

• Comfortable operating from the command line in a Linux/Unix setting.

• Experience in mentoring engineers or leading a small technical team.

• Professional working proficiency in English, both spoken and written, adequate for daily collaboration with a US-based team.

• Experience with Java 21, Spring Boot 3, and Next.js.

• Familiarity with gRPC/Protobuf or similar contract-first service design methodologies is advantageous.

• Experience with event-driven architecture and message brokers (e.g., Kafka) is a plus.

• Familiarity with deploying and managing services on AWS is an advantage.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., AWS CDK, Terraform) is a plus.

• Background in designing AI-powered product functionalities (such as semantic search, vector databases, prompt/instruction design, and testing non-deterministic systems) is a plus.

• Prior experience in HR technology, marketplace platforms, or other SaaS products is a plus.

• Previous experience working directly with a US-based team or client is advantageous.

• Successful completion of employment verification and background checks, confirming job titles and dates of employment with two previous employers.
