Senior Java Engineer, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs, primarily utilizing Java.

• Produce high-quality production code as a fundamental aspect of daily responsibilities.

• Assist with Python services and codebases as needed.

• Engage with approximately three to four interconnected microservices.

• Make and shape technical and architectural decisions.

• Decompose complex requirements and guide their technical execution.

• Review code and establish robust engineering standards.

• Mentor engineers by providing technical direction without formal line-management duties.

• Collaborate with Product Owners to assess requirements, trade-offs, and delivery strategies.

• Develop and manage cloud-native services, primarily on AWS.

• Deploy and operate containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker.

• Collaborate with DevOps engineers on CI/CD, deployment, scalability, and reliability.

• Leverage data, analytics, and operational insights to inform technical decisions.

• Contribute to testing, documentation, and ongoing improvement throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Support the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions where applicable.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional backend engineering experience.

• Strong, recent, and hands-on commercial experience with Java.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and developing microservices or distributed systems.

• Professional experience contributing to production-level Python codebases.

• In-depth knowledge of AWS and cloud-native application architecture.

• Solid hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

• Experience in designing and integrating REST APIs.

• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery methodologies.

• Experience in influencing architecture or leading technical decisions.

• Ability to review code and provide mentorship to other engineers.

• Strong understanding of testing, maintainability, and production code quality.

• Comfortable managing multiple services and technical priorities simultaneously.

• Excellent communication skills and capability to collaborate with technical and product stakeholders.

• Professional working proficiency in English (C1+).

• Experience with Azure in addition to AWS is a plus.

• Familiarity with building or integrating AI-enabled products is advantageous.

• Knowledge of analytics, data processing, or event-driven systems is a plus.

• Experience in an international, distributed engineering setting is beneficial.

• Previous experience supporting multiple engineering teams or product domains is an asset.
