Senior Java Engineer, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Italy.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs, mainly using Java.

• Write high-quality production code as an integral part of your daily responsibilities.

• Contribute to Python services and codebases as needed.

• Collaborate across roughly three to four interconnected microservices.

• Influence and make technical and architectural decisions.

• Decompose complex requirements and guide the technical implementation process.

• Review code and establish robust engineering standards.

• Mentor engineers and offer technical guidance without formal line-management duties.

• Partner with Product Owners to assess requirements, trade-offs, and delivery methods.

• Build and manage cloud-native services, primarily utilizing AWS.

• Deploy and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker.

• Collaborate with DevOps engineers on CI/CD, deployment, scalability, and reliability.

• Leverage data, analytics, and operational insights to inform technical decisions.

• Contribute to testing, documentation, and ongoing improvement throughout the SDLC.

• Support the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions where applicable.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend engineering.

• Strong, recent, and hands-on commercial expertise in Java.

• Proven experience in designing and developing microservices or distributed systems.

• Professional experience in contributing to production Python codebases.

• Strong understanding of AWS and cloud-native application architecture.

• Solid hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

• Experience in designing and integrating REST APIs.

• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.

• Experience in influencing architecture or leading technical decisions.

• Ability to review code and mentor fellow engineers.

• Strong understanding of testing, maintainability, and production code quality.

• Comfortable managing multiple services and technical priorities simultaneously.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with technical and product stakeholders.

• Professional working proficiency in English (C1+).

• Long-term B2B contract.

• Experience with Azure in addition to AWS is a plus.

• Experience in building or integrating AI-enabled products is a plus.

• Knowledge of analytics, data processing, or event-driven systems is a plus.

• Experience working in an international, distributed engineering environment is a plus.

• Previous experience supporting multiple engineering teams or product areas is a plus.
