Senior Java Engineer, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs, mainly using Java.

• Write high-quality production code as an essential part of daily tasks.

• Assist with Python services and codebases as needed.

• Work on approximately three to four interconnected microservices.

• Make and influence technical and architectural choices.

• Decompose complex requirements and guide their technical execution.

• Review code and set robust engineering standards.

• Mentor engineers and offer technical guidance without formal line-management duties.

• Collaborate with Product Owners to assess requirements, trade-offs, and delivery methods.

• Build and manage cloud-native services, primarily on AWS.

• Deploy and operate containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker.

• Partner with DevOps engineers on CI/CD, deployment, scalability, and reliability initiatives.

• Leverage data, analytics, and operational insights to inform technical choices.

• Participate in testing, documentation, and continuous improvement throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Facilitate the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions when suitable.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend engineering.

• Strong, recent, and hands-on commercial expertise in Java.

• Proven track record in designing and developing microservices or distributed systems.

• Professional experience in contributing to production-level Python codebases.

• In-depth knowledge of AWS and cloud-native application architecture.

• Solid hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

• Experience in designing and integrating REST APIs.

• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery methodologies.

• Experience in influencing architectural decisions or leading technical initiatives.

• Ability to review code and mentor fellow engineers.

• Strong comprehension of testing, maintainability, and production code quality.

• Comfortable managing multiple services and technical priorities concurrently.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with technical and product stakeholders.

• Professional working proficiency in English (C1+).

• Nice to have: Experience with Azure in addition to AWS.

• Nice to have: Experience in building or integrating AI-enabled products.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of analytics, data processing, or event-driven systems.

• Nice to have: Experience working in an international, distributed engineering environment.

• Nice to have: Previous experience supporting multiple engineering teams or product areas.
