Senior Java Engineer, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable backend services and APIs, primarily utilizing Java.

• Produce high-quality production code as an integral part of daily operations.

• Contribute to Python services and codebases as needed.

• Engage with approximately three to four interconnected microservices.

• Make and influence technical and architectural decisions.

• Decompose complex requirements and guide their technical execution.

• Review code and establish robust engineering standards.

• Mentor engineers and offer technical advice without formal management responsibilities.

• Collaborate with Product Owners to assess requirements, trade-offs, and delivery strategies.

• Develop and manage cloud-native services, primarily on AWS.

• Deploy and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker.

• Work alongside DevOps engineers on CI/CD, deployment, scalability, and reliability.

• Utilize data, analytics, and operational insights to inform technical choices.

• Contribute to testing, documentation, and ongoing improvement throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Support the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions when appropriate.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend engineering.

• Strong, recent, and hands-on commercial experience with Java.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and developing microservices or distributed systems.

• Professional experience in contributing to production Python codebases.

• Deep knowledge of AWS and cloud-native application architecture.

• Significant hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

• Experience in designing and integrating REST APIs.

• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery methodologies.

• Experience in influencing architecture or leading technical decisions.

• Capability to review code and mentor fellow engineers.

• Strong understanding of testing, maintainability, and production code quality.

• Comfortable managing multiple services and technical priorities simultaneously.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and product stakeholders.

• Professional working proficiency in English (C1+).

• Experience with Azure alongside AWS (considered a plus).

• Experience in building or integrating AI-enabled products (considered a plus).

• Knowledge of analytics, data processing, or event-driven systems (considered a plus).

• Experience working in an international, distributed engineering environment (considered a plus).

• Previous experience supporting multiple engineering teams or product areas (considered a plus).
