Senior Java Engineer – Fleet/Payments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain robust, scalable, and high-performance object-oriented backend services.

• Create public REST APIs using Java and internal gRPC APIs.

• Develop system designs, lead design decisions, and ensure alignment with senior engineers.

• Write unit, integration, end-to-end, concurrency, and load/performance tests.

• Assess systems to pinpoint bottlenecks and technical debt, implementing enhancements for scalability and stability.

• Automate testing, monitoring, healing, and application scaling, including continuous integration and deployment.

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to roll out new features.

• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and advocate for engineering best practices.

• Troubleshoot intricate issues, devise solutions, author root cause analyses, and enhance reliability.

• Evaluate competing technologies and provide recommendations on technology solutions.

• Maintain design documentation, run books, change management documents, and readiness plans.

• Support production applications through monitoring and prompt incident resolution.

• Lead cross-team projects as a single-threaded owner or technical lead, facilitating the progress of engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.

• Extensive experience in software engineering.

• Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms, object-oriented design, and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficiency in designing and developing internet-scale services with a focus on scalability, availability, security, and reliability.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a collaborative and empathetic approach.

• Expertise in backend development, particularly in Java or C#, and frameworks like SpringBoot, while building and optimizing RESTful APIs, ODATA framework, and SQL.

• Capability to utilize AI-enabled development tools such as Cursor AI, Kiro, and GitHub Copilot.

• Proficiency in English.

• Preferred: Master’s degree in computer science or software engineering; experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka; experience in card payments; familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes; understanding of API security and PCI DSS compliance; knowledge of iOS or Android development; experience in building and deploying AI solutions; experience in developing production-grade AI agents or copilots; familiarity with multi-agent systems and distributed AI architectures; experience with vector databases; awareness of AI evaluation techniques, safety practices, and responsible AI principles.
