Senior Integration Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design, development, and validation of scalable integration interfaces between SmarterDx and hospital or health system EHRs, such as Epic, Cerner, and Meditech.

• Act as a technical authority during customer interactions, facilitating architectural discussions with health system executives, IT personnel, interface and network teams, CDI and Coding leaders, and implementation sponsors.

• Manage integrations comprehensively, covering specifications, mapping, configuration, testing strategies, go-live preparation, and production stabilization.

• Lead data validation and reconciliation processes to ensure integrity, completeness, and compliance with interoperability standards.

• Create reliability and observability features, including monitoring, alerting, traceability, replay strategies, and operational runbooks.

• Direct incident response efforts, conduct root cause analysis, and implement durable solutions for complex production challenges.

• Engage in an after-hours Tier 3 rotation to provide high-priority support.

• Enhance integration operations through automation, utilizing test harnesses, validation tools, automated checks, and deployment methodologies.

• Keep abreast of evolving interoperability standards and translate them into architectural recommendations.

• Shape product and platform strategies by providing insights on schemas, data contracts, mapping techniques, and integration tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in building, deploying, and supporting hospital-based HL7v2 interfaces at scale.

• Expert-level knowledge of EHR-specific message structures, triggers, acknowledgments, error handling, and downstream impacts.

• In-depth experience with interface engine architecture and operations.

• Outstanding executive communication abilities.

• Demonstrated expertise in scalable database extraction architecture, performance tuning, indexing strategies, and downstream data validation.

• Extensive experience in enabling FHIR R4 APIs/resources and SMART on FHIR workflows.

• Capability to lead critical meetings and produce documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proficiency in defining timelines, critical paths, risks, mitigations, and measurable success criteria.

• Practical experience with JavaScript or Python for message transformation or workflow automation.

• Proficiency in SQL for validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with TLS, HTTPS, and VPN configurations.

• Self-sufficiency and the ability to drive process enhancements during periods of ambiguity and shifting priorities.

• Advanced experience with Rhapsody architecture and operations is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with Epic Bridges, Interconnect, Reporting Workbench, Clarity, Chronicles, Caboodle, or Cogito is a plus.

• Experience with EHR data extraction and transfer methods, including flat file and X12 transfers via SFTP is a plus.

• A background in clinical informatics or possession of certified health IT credentials is a plus.

• Involvement in HL7 or FHIR working groups or contributions to open-source healthcare integration tools is a plus.
