Senior Integration Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and provide support for healthcare integrations throughout their lifecycle, primarily utilizing HL7v2 within Epic and Oracle Health/Cerner.

• Act as the technical owner and subject matter expert for SmarterDx’s integration platform, overseeing configuration, administration, monitoring, upgrades, and production operations.

• Collaborate with Infrastructure and Security teams to manage the cloud-hosted integration platform using AWS, VPN connectivity, networking, TLS/certificate management, HTTPS endpoints, and secure customer connectivity.

• Ensure reliability and availability through proactive monitoring, safe change practices, capacity planning, and performance planning.

• Establish and implement integration development and operational best practices, including reusable components, configuration standards, testing, deployments, documentation, and operational processes.

• Serve as a senior technical escalation point for production issues, spearheading troubleshooting, root cause analysis, message recovery/reprocessing, and durable remediation.

• Participate in an after-hours on-call / Tier 3 support rotation for critical integration and platform incidents.

• Assist with integration platform cases, platform inquiries, upgrades, capacity planning, and technical escalations.

• Collaborate with Integration Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, Product, and customer technical teams during implementations, connectivity setup, and production support.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in healthcare integration, including the development, deployment, and support of hospital-based HL7v2 interfaces at scale.

• Profound, hands-on expertise in building integrations from the ground up within enterprise healthcare interface engines.

• Experience in owning or administering an interface engine within a production environment.

• Expert-level knowledge of HL7v2, including message structure, message types, trigger events, acknowledgments, transformations, sequencing, and error handling.

• Strong JavaScript skills for message transformation and workflow logic.

• Proficient in SQL for validation, troubleshooting, and operational analysis.

• Experience supporting high-volume, mission-critical integration platforms in AWS or similar cloud-hosted environments.

• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, MLLP, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS certificates, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, and secure connectivity.

• Strong production support and troubleshooting abilities across interface engines, HL7, applications, network connectivity, infrastructure, and external dependencies.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating with teams and managing complex technical challenges.

• Nice to have: Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages, experience with enterprise healthcare interface engines in SaaS or hosted deployments, healthcare integration certifications or formal training, knowledge of hospital workflows, clinical data structures, EHR integration patterns, revenue cycle data flows, SFTP, flat files, X12, REST APIs, SOAP web services, database connectivity, FHIR, Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Corepoint, InterSystems, automated testing, CI/CD, configuration management, environment promotion, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
