This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Design, construct, and uphold a secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Oversee and continually enhance production Kubernetes environments.
• Apply and manage infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, and CI/CD methodologies.
• Enhance the reliability, performance, resilience, and observability of VALR’s platform.
• Automate infrastructure operations to eliminate repetitive manual tasks.
• Participate in the on-call rotation, address production incidents, and contribute to post-incident evaluations.
• Diagnose complex infrastructure, networking, security, and deployment challenges.
• Implement security best practices across infrastructure, access controls, and secrets management.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Security teams to ensure reliable and secure software delivery.
• Advance infrastructure standards, documentation, and processes while offering technical guidance to team members.
• Significant experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proficient with at least one major public cloud platform, such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
• Extensive hands-on experience managing and supporting Kubernetes in a production setting.
• Strong knowledge of Docker and container-based environments.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes templating and configuration tools like Helm and Kustomize.
• Practical experience with GitOps principles and tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
• Strong expertise in using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
• Experience in designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitLab, GitHub, or similar platforms.
• Solid understanding of Linux systems and command-line utilities.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, load balancing, proxies, and firewalls.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Previous involvement in incident response and on-call duties using tools such as PagerDuty.
• Strong automation and scripting capabilities, particularly with Bash or similar languages.
• Understanding of infrastructure security, encompassing IAM, secrets management, access controls, and least-privilege principles.
• Proficient in utilizing AI tools such as Claude or Codex for technical tasks, with awareness of security and verification considerations.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within complex production environments.
• Capacity to work independently, take ownership of technical outcomes, and collaborate effectively across teams.
