This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
β’ Develop, calibrate, implement, and review numerical groundwater flow models for mining, environmental, and water resource initiatives.
β’ Provide modeling support related to mine dewatering, depressurization, inflows from pits and underground operations, groundwater recovery, contaminant transport, seepage, closure activities, and overall water management.
β’ Create and analyze conceptual hydrogeologic models utilizing geological data, field observations, monitoring records, hydraulic testing, groundwater chemistry, and project-specific constraints.
β’ Assess model assumptions, calibration processes, uncertainties, sensitivity analyses, limitations, and their implications for client decision-making.
β’ Draft technical reports, model documentation, presentations, proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and detailed work plans.
β’ Act as a technical reviewer and internal expert for maintaining quality in groundwater modeling.
β’ Guide and mentor junior and intermediate team members in modeling techniques, hydrogeologic interpretation, and effective technical communication.
β’ Operate independently on complex tasks and oversee modeling projects or assignments.
β’ Collaborate with hydrogeologists, geomechanics engineers, engineering geologists, geochemists, data scientists, and software developers.
β’ Contribute to the continuous enhancement of ITASCAβs modeling expertise, workflows, training resources, and technical capabilities.
β’ Collaborate with the MINEDW product manager and internal software teams to assist with groundwater model code development, feature enhancements, user training materials, and marketing initiatives.
β’ Advanced degree in hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
β’ Approximately 10β20 years of relevant professional experience.
β’ Demonstrated track record of technical excellence in groundwater flow modeling.
β’ Extensive experience in developing, calibrating, applying, and interpreting numerical groundwater models.
β’ Familiarity with conceptual hydrogeologic models, hydrogeologic data analysis, and model documentation.
β’ Capability to critically assess model assumptions, calibration, uncertainties, sensitivities, and limitations.
β’ Proven ability to work independently on complex technical assignments.
β’ Experience in supervising, managing, mentoring, and reviewing the work of others.
β’ Strong skills in technical writing, verbal communication, and delivering presentations.
β’ Ability to support proposals, work programs, and maintain client communications.
β’ Proficient with MINEDW, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, MIKE SHE, Groundwater Vistas, MT3D/transport modeling tools, PEST, or similar modeling platforms.
β’ Previous experience in the mining industry, especially in areas such as mine dewatering, depressurization, pit inflow, pore-pressure estimation, water balance, closure processes, groundwater recovery, or operational hydrogeology.
β’ Background in finite-element and/or finite-difference groundwater modeling techniques.
β’ Experience with contaminant transport modeling, parameter estimation, uncertainty analysis, sensitivity analysis, or stochastic modeling.
β’ Programming or scripting skills using Python, R, VBA, or comparable tools.
β’ Experience with GIS, 3-D visualization, large datasets, database tools, or model pre/post-processing workflows.
β’ Knowledge of field investigation design, aquifer testing, hydraulic testing, groundwater monitoring, or data collection methodologies.
β’ Experience in creating modeling workflows, training materials, software documentation, or user-oriented technical content.
