This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal, +4 more countries.
• Design, develop, and sustain robust, scalable, and dependable backend services tailored to meet business requirements.
• Lead technical research, architectural design, and the implementation of backend services and new features.
• Collaborate with various teams to deliver integrated and optimal solutions.
• Engage in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Contribute to elevating the overall technical quality of backend services.
• Produce clean, efficient, and maintainable code that adheres to company standards.
• Oversee the entire backend services lifecycle, including delivery, monitoring, and production maintenance.
• Establish and maintain observability infrastructure, which includes metrics, logging, dashboards, and tracing.
• Mentor and assist other engineers while promoting best practices and high standards.
• Work on enhancing the end-to-end passenger experience for a ride-hailing application.
• Complete stages including English proficiency assessment, an internal technical interview, a client interview, and a cultural-fit interview with the client.
• Intermediate proficiency in English.
• The candidate must reside in the EU, Georgia, Armenia, Serbia, or Kazakhstan.
• Ability to work within the CET time zone.
• At least 5 years of commercial backend engineering experience in production settings.
• Strong expertise in Go, encompassing concurrency, synchronization primitives, context propagation, goroutine lifecycle management, and graceful shutdown patterns.
• Experience in building and supporting high-load distributed systems.
• Recent product development experience that involves complex business logic and evolving requirements.
• Proficient in SQL and data modeling skills, including schema design, joins, aggregations, composite indexes, data type selection, query analysis, replication, partitioning, and sharding.
• Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Strong knowledge of caching strategies, including Redis, cache-aside, warm-up, and background refresh.
• Familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous inter-service communication, such as gRPC and message brokers, along with delivery guarantees, idempotency, and load-balancing trade-offs.
• In-depth understanding of microservice architecture patterns and effective client-server interactions, including trade-offs and limitations.
• Hands-on experience with observability tools and practices, including metrics, logging, distributed tracing, alerting, and Go profiling with pprof.
• Understanding of non-functional requirements, SLA, SLO, and SLI.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms.
• Ability to write maintainable, testable code with comprehensive unit and integration test coverage.
• Proficiency with Git and contemporary code review workflows.
• Capability to explain project architecture at the appropriate depth.
• Ability to independently convert ambiguous problems into solutions by clarifying requirements and workload.
• Nice to have: experience with event-driven architecture using Kafka, NATS, or RabbitMQ.
• Nice to have: familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Nice to have: Go performance profiling and optimization experience using pprof and trace.
• Nice to have: knowledge of design handoff tools and cross-platform collaboration workflows.
• Nice to have: experience with AI-assisted development tools.

• Monthly invoicing and payment, typically aligned with the client's payment schedule to Bonapolia (generally 30 days).
• Contract governed by the laws of the candidate's country.
