This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, and maintain features within the loan origination platform, encompassing application intake, decision-making logic, servicing, and collections workflows.
• Create and uphold internal operational tools for loan management, program configuration, report generation, and addressing inquiries from schools and borrowers.
• Engage in architectural decisions, conduct code reviews, and participate in technical design discussions.
• Utilize AI-assisted development methods for code generation, test creation, refactoring, and documentation purposes.
• Collaborate with compliance and legal teams to implement TILA, ECOA, fair lending standards, and state licensing requirements.
• Develop and instrument data pipelines in conjunction with the data team for credit modeling, compliance reporting, and analytics for school-facing portfolios.
• Occasionally interact with technical stakeholders from schools and universities regarding integration requirements and platform reliability.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning, uphold high standards, and provide direct, low-ego feedback.
• Report to the Engineering Director of Lending and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to establish a resilient, highly available, and compliant lending workbench.
• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent expertise.
• Proficient in Python, TypeScript, and/or JavaScript; capable of producing clean, maintainable code in both languages and discerning when to utilize each.
• Experience in developing operational and/or internal tools for fintech, lending, or other regulated sectors.
• Practical application of AI coding tools like Cursor, Copilot, or Claude as a performance enhancer.
• Familiarity with Django or a similar Python web framework and React.
• Direct experience with cloud/serverless infrastructure such as AWS Lambda or GCP Cloud Functions, along with modern deployment methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Dedication to technology that enhances access to education and economic mobility.
• Previous exposure to fintech, payments, banking, or financial services is a plus.
• Experience in designing and constructing reliable, observable, and accurate data pipelines, ETL workflows, or event-driven systems is beneficial.
• Understanding of TILA, ECOA, or state lending regulations is advantageous.
• Previous startup experience is a plus.
• Experience integrating with loan servicers, payment processors, or financial data providers is beneficial.
• Must not require current or future visa sponsorship to work legally in the United States.
