This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
β’ Take ownership of uptime, performance, and resilience for NBA platform services.
β’ Proactively identify and address bottlenecks, failure points, and scaling constraints prior to incidents arising.
β’ Contribute significantly by writing and deploying production code as an individual contributor.
β’ Develop and sustain automated testing infrastructure across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing layers.
β’ Set testing standards and ensure that delivery teams hand off code that meets quality benchmarks.
β’ Manage logging, alerting, and monitoring systems to maintain visibility in production.
β’ Design and implement error-handling patterns across platform services.
β’ Assess platform components under load and spearhead scalability enhancements.
β’ Define and impose quality gates for the safe transition of code from delivery to production.
β’ Supervise quality and reliability engineers, along with contractor resources within the team.
β’ Collaborate with delivery team leads to identify quality and reliability issues in the early stages.
β’ Work standard business hours from Monday to Friday, totaling 8 hours each day.
β’ Occasionally travel to Humana offices for training sessions or meetings.

β’ A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required.
β’ Over 5 years of experience in designing, developing, and testing software applications and/or infrastructure.
β’ At least 4 years of full stack software engineering experience, with a minimum of 1β2 years dedicated to platform reliability, software quality, or site reliability engineering.
β’ Practical experience in building and managing testing infrastructure, including automated test suites, integration testing, load testing, and end-to-end coverage.
β’ A solid understanding of observability practices, including structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, and alerting.
β’ Experience in designing and enforcing error handling and failure management patterns across distributed systems.
β’ Demonstrated capability to lead a small team or group through project delivery and manage contractor resources effectively.
β’ Proficient in working with Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.
β’ Strong communication skills to convey quality risks to engineering leads and senior leadership.
β’ A genuine passion for contributing to an organization that prioritizes continuous improvement in consumer experiences.
β’ Familiarity with AI productivity tools such as Claude or Copilot is advantageous.
β’ Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms and container-level reliability and scaling is highly desirable.
β’ Knowledge of Kafka and event-driven architectures is a significant plus.
β’ A background in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries is beneficial.
β’ Experience with chaos engineering or fault injection testing is a valuable addition.
β’ Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD quality gates is considered a strong plus.
