Senior Front End Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop features for both the Knotch ACE and Knotch One applications.

• Create a component system that renders AI-generated layouts in real-time, which includes schemas, renderers, and contracts.

• Work on multi-tenant theming, design tokens, and specific configurations for different brands and clients.

• Build and maintain embeds that allow the product to function within customer websites.

• Establish standards for testing, accessibility, and performance metrics.

• Collaborate with backend engineers on API and streaming contracts.

• Document technical approaches prior to implementation and proactively identify blockers, risks, and disagreements.

• Quickly familiarize yourself with unfamiliar aspects of the product and codebase.

• Provide mentorship through code reviews, collaborative coding sessions, and written design documentation.

• Take ownership of features from inception to completion, collaborating closely with backend, data, and product teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in building React applications for production environments.

• Daily use of TypeScript, including typing data that is received at runtime.

• Familiarity with Next.js App Router or similar frameworks that utilize a server/client rendering split, such as Remix, Nuxt, or SvelteKit.

• Experience working within a large codebase with historical context, integrating into prior decisions rather than starting from scratch.

• Proficiency in CSS at scale, utilizing either utility-first frameworks (like Tailwind) or CSS-in-JS solutions (like styled-components or Emotion).

• Development of styling systems based on tokens or theme objects.

• Experience with accessible UI design, including keyboard navigation, ARIA standards, and WCAG compliance testing.

• Knowledge in data visualization tools such as ECharts, D3, Recharts, or similar libraries.

• Experience writing tests in conjunction with feature development using tools like Vitest, Jest, or Testing Library.

• Strong written communication skills and the ability to work independently.

• Capability to scope personal work, resolve obstacles, and articulate needs effectively.

• Nice to have: Experience with runtime schema validation tools such as Zod or Valibot.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with streaming or incremental UI technologies like SSE or WebSockets.

• Nice to have: Experience with monorepo tooling such as pnpm workspaces, Turborepo, or Nx.

• Nice to have: Understanding of design tokens and multi-tenant theming implementations.

• Nice to have: Experience embedding JavaScript into third-party sites using iframes, CSP, or sandboxing techniques.

• Nice to have: Expertise in client state management at scale (using Redux, Zustand, or similar) in conjunction with a typed API layer, whether it be GraphQL or REST.

• Nice to have: Experience with AI-assisted tools to enhance productivity, along with insights into their effectiveness.
