Senior Forward Deployed Engineer – Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Engage directly with intricate, established Java applications and enterprise-level codebases.

• Examine and reverse-engineer current systems to comprehend their architecture, dependencies, business logic, and technical limitations.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools for tasks including code generation, analysis, refactoring, testing, and documentation.

• Implement structured AI development methodologies, such as reverse engineering, Spec-Driven Development (SDD), and automated test creation.

• Refactor and update existing Java applications, which includes the removal or replacement of legacy dependencies and outdated components.

• Produce and enhance automated tests to facilitate safe modernization and refactoring efforts.

• Work in collaboration with engineering teams and stakeholders to convert requirements and existing system behaviors into sustainable technical solutions.

• Contribute to the establishment of efficient, repeatable AI-assisted development practices across engineering teams.

• Uphold high standards for code quality, maintainability, testing, and software engineering best practices.

• Assist large enterprises in transforming AI potential into tangible business outcomes through AI Deployment, AI-native execution, and technology-integrated business solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in Java development, ideally within enterprise settings and complex existing systems.

• Strong practical experience in Java application development, maintenance, refactoring, and modernization.

• A minimum of 3 months of hands-on experience utilizing Cursor as the primary AI code-generation tool in a team project, OR at least 6 months of relevant experience with similar AI coding tools, such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or others.

• Practical experience with shared, structured AI development workflows, especially in reverse engineering and/or Spec-Driven Development (SDD).

• Hands-on experience employing AI-assisted workflows for test generation.

• Practical experience in refactoring existing Java systems to eliminate or replace legacy dependencies.

• Strong capability to understand and navigate unfamiliar and complex codebases.

• Solid foundational knowledge in software engineering, including clean code practices, automated testing, version control, and collaborative development methodologies.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and stakeholders.

• Familiarity with legacy Microsoft IE5 HTCs and DHTML architectures (a plus).

• Experience with Oracle Database schema upgrades and/or stored procedures (a plus).

• Previous exposure to Oracle JDK 8 (a plus).

• Prior experience in a consulting environment (a plus).
