Senior Fisheries Biologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Act as a lead in delivering fisheries and aquatic resource services for clients, offering technical guidance from project planning and field mobilization to analysis, reporting, and project closeout.

• Evaluate and interpret environmental data, including relevant statistical analyses.

• Prepare summary and technical reports for both internal and external needs, including regulatory submissions.

• Assist in the development of environmental assessments and regulatory applications.

• Lead quality assurance and control, along with senior technical reviews, to ensure compliance with established standards.

• Offer expert advice on fisheries and aquatic resource risks, regulatory obligations, permitting strategies, mitigation measures, monitoring efforts, and adaptive management practices.

• Gather environmental data, which involves sampling fish, benthic invertebrates, periphyton, and surface water; oversee sample custody and monitoring instruments.

• Supervise remote field operations and guide field crews, which includes planning, logistics, sample custody, equipment readiness, data quality assurance, and ensuring safe working conditions.

• Collaborate with technical teams to enhance project environmental designs and optimize regulatory procedures.

• Keep abreast of changes in legislation and regulations, coordinating regulatory information within the organization.

• Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, identifying client needs, and estimating project costs.

• Provide technical insights for projects and engage with technical experts on multidisciplinary objectives.

• Mentor and deliver technical training to junior team members.

• Guide training and onboarding processes for new team members.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biology, aquatic sciences, environmental science, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of relevant experience in mining or environmental consulting, with a proven track record in aquatic-related services.

• Registration as a Professional Biologist (R.P. Bio) or eligibility for R.P. Bio is considered advantageous.

• CABIN certification is viewed as a beneficial asset.

• Experience with Metal Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER), Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) programs, and Fisheries Act Authorizations is advantageous.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with team members while also leading independent projects.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) along with other business software.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
