This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Conduct thorough and independent investigations to ascertain the origin and cause of fires and explosions.
• Examine significant loss incidents, including major fire losses, multiple claims, and suspected cases of insurance fraud.
• Investigate locations and offer expert testimony during depositions and court trials.
• Report on assigned cases to relevant parties following best practices.
• Maintain confidentiality of claims files and document pertinent facts in claims management systems.
• Keep management updated on developments that may impact claims outcomes.
• Review investigations and promptly recommend conclusions.
• Provide guidance and advice to claims leadership and team members regarding claims resolution.
• Foster and maintain relationships with government agencies and private information organizations.
• Identify and interview witnesses as well as involved parties.
• Independently conclude investigations and assess negligence and legal violations.
• Review public records such as deeds, mortgages, liens, lawsuits, judgments, and marriage and divorce documents.
• Stay technically proficient in applicable laws, privacy rights, and the availability of public records.
• Offer investigative support to Fire Investigator team members as needed.
• Participate in quality programs and travel as necessary.
• Minimum requirement: NAFI-CFEI certification.
• At least five years of experience in fire investigations or a suitable combination of education and experience.
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
• IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification is preferred.
• Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
• Proficient in PC use, particularly with advanced Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Good analytical and interpretive abilities.
• Robust investigative skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail and precision.
• Capacity to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
• Ability to meet or surpass performance competencies.
• Capability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
• Ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, stoop, reach, and work overhead.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull loads up to 100 pounds.
• Capacity to drive for up to four hours a day.
