This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• Ensure that accounting records are accurate, well-maintained, and ready for audits during the month-end close.
• Record revenue entries in Xero on a periodic basis and implement the revenue recognition policy.
• Identify edge cases and judgement calls related to revenue recognition and communicate them to the Finance Manager.
• Prepare and enter month-end journals, which include accruals, prepayments, and non-routine entries.
• Execute the month-end close checklist in Asana and ensure the close is completed by WD+6.
• Conduct reconciliations, complete close tasks, and provide analysis and variance commentary for management reporting.
• Review journals and reconciliations created by less experienced team members and guide them through any errors.
• Manage the fixed asset register and intercompany reconciliations across Traild entities.
• Approve monthly reconciliations to the general ledger.
• Assist the Tax and Compliance Specialist and external auditors with workpapers and documentation.
• Maintain data quality and integrity in Xero, collaborating with the BI Analyst on reporting data.
• Develop scalable processes, document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and integrate practical AI use cases.
• Lead a small offshore finance team by setting expectations, providing training, feedback, and conducting regular one-on-ones.
• Qualified CA/CPA, or currently pursuing this qualification.
• Over 5 years of experience in a technical accounting role.
• Significant exposure to revenue recognition, month-end close processes, and multi-entity reconciliations.
• Ideally, experience in a subscription or SaaS business.
• Proficient with Xero through hands-on experience.
• Advanced skills in Excel or Sheets for reconciliations and month-end workpapers.
• Experience in reviewing the work of junior or offshore accountants.
• Proven ability to establish process and quality standards while providing direct feedback.
• Solid understanding of tax treatment and compliance regulations.
• Comfortable making and justifying accounting treatment decisions.
• Methodical and self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
• Capable of clearly explaining accounting treatments to non-technical colleagues.
• Residing in Australia, preferably in Melbourne or Sydney.
• Comfortable collaborating with colleagues in different time zones.
• Strong skills in collaboration, adaptability, hands-on execution, and a scale-up mindset.
