Senior Finance Manager – FP&A Operations, Insurance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas.

📋 Description

• Oversee essential FP&A operational rhythms, which encompass multi-year planning, annual budget formulation, ongoing forecasts, income/cash flow pacing, and performance reporting across insurance product lines and legal entities.

• Establish, track, and analyze financial and operational KPIs.

• Review results, examine variances, spot emerging trends, and articulate key drivers to internal management.

• Generate management reports and executive-level analyses, including forecast packages, monthly operating review documents, and capital-related assessments.

• Collaborate with Controllership, Actuarial, Investments, Operations, Technology, and other stakeholders on functional initiatives and data dependencies.

• Deliver specialized accounting, financial reporting, and FP&A analysis for intricate or unclear issues.

• Facilitate financial analysis across long-term care, structured settlements, variable annuities, and various insurance portfolios.

• Lead or assist in process-improvement efforts aimed at enhancing forecast accuracy, reporting efficiency, controls, traceability, and decision-making support.

• Contribute to Finance Transformation and the future-state FP&A design by documenting requirements and assessing process and data requirements.

• Utilize artificial intelligence and Microsoft Copilot for forecasting, variance analysis, management reporting, knowledge sharing, and decision support.

• Employ Power BI, business intelligence, data visualization, and advanced analytics to unify data, automate reporting, and provide decision-ready insights.

• Convey complex financial concepts and recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership.

• Assist in meeting service, quality, and timeliness goals during close, forecasting, planning, and executive reporting cycles.

• Mentor and develop team members while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement culture.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.

• Six or more years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, or a related field.

• Proficient in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, management reporting, and financial modeling.

• Capability to analyze complex data, exercise sound judgment, and formulate clear, supportable recommendations.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to senior leadership and non-finance stakeholders.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

• Experience in the insurance or financial-services industry is advantageous.

• Familiarity with GAAP and statutory financial reporting, as well as capital and cash-flow concepts.

• Experience collaborating with Actuarial, Investments, Controllership, Operations, and Technology teams.

• Proven ability to lead projects, document requirements, plan workflows, and deliver results through cross-functional teams.

• Exposure to Power BI, Microsoft Copilot, Oracle NetSuite, Hyperion, Microsoft Fabric, or similar financial planning and analytics tools.

• Experience evaluating or implementing artificial intelligence, automation, Microsoft Copilot, or other emerging technologies within finance, analytics, or business intelligence processes.

• Ability to enhance processes through automation, standardization, Lean principles, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

• Capability to execute tasks accurately under tight deadlines for close, forecasting, and executive reporting.

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

• Curiosity, learning agility, attention to detail, and a willingness to question existing methodologies.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
