Senior Federal Accounting Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Assist the advisory team with daily operations related to federal financial management.

• Offer technical accounting and financial reporting advisory services to a federal client.

• Conduct research and analysis on technical and general ledger accounting.

• Prepare federal financial statements and accompanying notes.

• Interpret and create regulatory and accounting guidance as well as procedural documents for financial management.

• Verify accounting functions and transactions, including fund balance with Treasury, accounts receivable, obligations, accrued expenditures, disbursements, appropriation refunds, reimbursable orders, earnings, collections, eliminations, and journal vouchers.

• Prepare and review source documents to ensure accuracy, validity, compliance with expenditure limitations, and correct accounting data.

• Maintain and balance subsidiary ledgers.

• Conduct reconciliations for unliquidated contractual obligations, fund balance with Treasury, accounts receivable, unfilled customer orders, and other USSGL accounts.

• Create point papers, briefing materials, and visual presentations.

• Deliver formal oral presentations to government personnel across all levels.

• Educate and inform management regarding alternatives for financial and operational service delivery.

• Research and implement best practices to address audit findings and rectify internal control deficiencies.

• Provide technical guidance and direction to junior personnel.

• Suggest enhancements to operational and transactional business processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Federal or DoD Public Trust; approved adjudication is required before onboarding.

• Bachelor's Degree; four years of additional professional experience can substitute for the Bachelor's degree.

• A minimum of four years of experience in accounting or financial management.

• Recognized as an expert in the relevant field(s).

• Ability to conduct studies, analyze results, and provide recommendations using both qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques.

• Familiarity with mission, organization, work processes, and administrative support relationships.

• Experience in management improvement, productivity enhancement, management controls, and long-term planning.

• Capability to develop guidance, advise on reorganizations or realignment of functions, and create manuals and directives.

• CPA or other federal financial management/accounting certification is a plus.

• Experience with DHS is also a plus.

• Willingness to learn and engage in business development activities and internal firm objectives is advantageous.
