Senior Estimator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Work in partnership with technical experts, project managers, business development teams, and regional leadership to gain insights into project goals, requirements, and scope.

• Create zero-based cost estimates for water and wastewater initiatives, encompassing labor, consumables, maintenance, materials, equipment, subcontractor expenses, and operational costs.

• Consider flow variability, influent loadings, impacts of wet weather, and system inefficiencies when making estimation assumptions and cost scenarios.

• Analyze technical specifications, NPDES permits, service level agreements, and performance guarantees.

• Discover cost optimization strategies while upholding quality and compliance standards.

• Evaluate project specifications to pinpoint cost-related risks and opportunities.

• Perform market research on material and labor costs, adjusting pricing as necessary.

• Develop structured and documented cost proposals for project bidding purposes.

• Review project procedures and specifications to ensure estimating accuracy and identify potential challenges.

• Maintain and refresh cost databases and templates.

• Engage with vendors and suppliers to validate cost information and negotiate pricing and terms.

• Assist in budgeting and financial planning for project proposals and execution.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in estimating, cost structuring, or comparable roles, ideally within the water and wastewater sector.

• Strong understanding of water and wastewater system performance, including treatment process optimization, regulatory compliance frameworks, and operational cost structures.

• Thorough knowledge of chemicals, biosolids handling and disposal, energy consumption, and labor utilization as major cost drivers.

• Exceptional ability to interpret technical documents and project plans to produce accurate cost estimates.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• Familiarity with estimating software such as ProEst or Sage Estimating.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on Excel.

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.

• Relevant experience may be accepted in place of a degree.

• Knowledge of cost structures and regulations specific to water and wastewater projects.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Capacity to work independently and manage multiple project estimates at the same time.

• Ability to collaborate with team members to refine cost structures.

• 40-50% travel is required.
