Senior EOIR Removal Defense Paralegal / Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Supervise around three Removal Defense Paralegals

• Delegate and oversee tasks, workloads, and case assignments

• Review hearings, deadlines, case progress, and task completions

• Conduct routine audits of cases and tasks

• Identify overdue, incomplete, or at-risk tasks and escalate significant concerns

• Train and assist paralegals, addressing procedural and workflow inquiries

• Maintain a limited personal caseload consisting of approximately 5–15 EOIR matters

• Manage Master Calendar Hearing matters, Individual/Merits Hearing preparations, defensive asylum, withholding of removal, CAT, Cancellation of Removal, Adjustment of Status before EOIR, detained proceedings, bond matters, VAWA-related issues, motions, prosecutorial discretion requests, and BIA-related matters

• Prepare forms, motions, declarations, exhibits, indexes, supporting documents, and court filing packages for attorney review

• Oversee the department’s overall EOIR caseload and master hearing/deadline calendar

• Track hearings, filing deadlines, attorney appearances, case developments, court orders, and scheduling updates

• Set internal preparation deadlines and monitor ECAS and EOIR case information

• Supervise case opening, assignment, transfer, reassignment, onboarding, handoffs, and closure

• Maintain templates, checklists, SOPs, filing procedures, and workflows

• Ensure proactive case progression and identify missing documents, evidence, client actions, and next steps

• Support attorney hearing preparation, exhibit filing, declarations, evidence gathering, case summaries, client preparation appointments, and strategy meetings

• Communicate with clients regarding procedural requirements and case preparation

• Monitor client document requests, follow-ups, reminders, communications, and escalated issues

• Ensure Lawmatics, Docketwise, Microsoft 365, and other firm systems accurately represent case statuses, deadlines, tasks, notes, and documents

• Track and report on department KPIs including hearings, deadlines, overdue tasks, detained cases, workloads, audit results, filing accuracy, and productivity

• Remain accessible for team support, urgent case matters, attorney requests, deadline issues, and time-sensitive needs until 5:00 PM Eastern Time


⛳️ Requirements

• Previous U.S. immigration paralegal experience

• Extensive EOIR/removal defense experience

• Strong understanding of EOIR procedures and terminology

• Experience in preparing immigration court filings

• Experience managing court deadlines and hearing calendars

• Experience assisting attorneys in removal proceedings

• Proficient written and spoken English

• Exceptional attention to detail

• Strong organizational and administrative skills

• Capability to manage multiple priorities concurrently

• Ability to prioritize detained and urgent matters

• Capacity to work independently in a remote setting

• Ability to supervise, train, and support other team members

• Skill in holding team members professionally accountable

• Strong client-service orientation

• Sharp problem-solving abilities

• Ability to identify issues and escalate them appropriately

• Comfortable utilizing technology in a fully remote environment

• Strong general tech skills and quick adaptability to new systems

• Experience with or familiarity with Docketwise, Microsoft 365, Adobe/PDF document preparation, ECAS, EOIR Automated Case Information, and USCIS online systems is preferred

• Spanish proficiency is advantageous but not mandatory

• Reliable high-speed internet connection

• Reliable computer equipment

• Professional and quiet workspace

• Ability to participate in video meetings

• Excellent remote communication practices

• Availability to work and remain accessible from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time

• Resume and a brief description of EOIR/removal defense experience are required

• Candidates without significant EOIR/removal defense experience may not be considered
