Senior Environmental Scientist, Geologist, Hydrogeologist, Engineer – Testifying Expert Witness

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a testifying expert witness in intricate environmental litigation cases.

• Lead the technical assessment of contentious environmental issues, such as source identification, timing of releases, contaminant fate and transport, response actions and cleanup costs, PRP allocation, risk assessment, data validation, and regulatory compliance.

• Direct and supervise technical and forensic analyses that support expert testimony.

• Oversee and organize large document productions and technical records.

• Formulate and defend expert opinions in written reports, depositions, and trial testimonies.

• Implement and maintain stringent quality assurance and quality control measures for reliable, high-quality technical outputs.

• Collaborate directly with legal counsel and environmental clients, offering strategic technical support and fostering trusted advisory relationships.

• Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technical challenges.

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, technical excellence, and compliance with budgetary limits.

• Work alongside risk assessors, toxicologists, ecologists, scientists, and engineers on complex environmental issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15+ years of consulting expertise in supporting complex environmental litigation cases and settlement processes, with a proven record of successful results.

• In-depth knowledge of regulatory standards for remedial investigations and risk assessments (including human health and ecological risk assessments for soil, sediment, surface water, and food web exposures) across state, federal, and international environmental programs.

• Proven proficiency in site investigation, characterization, and remediation that supports regulatory compliance and litigation efforts.

• Advanced environmental forensics experience addressing contaminant sources across various environmental media.

• Strong preference for familiarity with high-risk contaminants of concern, including PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances).

• Experience with other emerging and legacy contaminants of concern, such as PAHs, PCBs, dioxins/furans, metals, mercury, pesticides, and chlorinated solvents.

• Demonstrated skill in reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting complex scientific datasets, including historical document research, aerial photography interpretation, geospatial, spatial, and temporal statistical analyses, and uncertainty assessments.

• Proven technical leadership and project management abilities, with experience in mentoring and developing team members.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both legal and non-technical audiences.

• Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• M.S. or Ph.D. in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, engineering, or a related field.
