Senior Engineering Manager, SDKs

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture a team of senior engineers by providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for career advancement.

• Manage the prioritization and intake process for the SDK portfolio, which includes over 35 SDKs and the Relay Proxy.

• Balance responsibilities among feature development, maintenance, security, and customer escalations.

• Collaborate with Product Management to outline and deliver the roadmap for the SDK and Relay Proxy.

• Provide guidance on technical trade-offs across various languages and platforms.

• Ensure that SDKs are idiomatic, efficient, and robust.

• Serve as the representative for SDK engineering in interactions with customers, Support, Solutions, and Sales teams.

• Effectively communicate roadmaps, risks, and progress updates to engineering leadership.

• Promote operational excellence in release quality, observability, and incident management.

• Establish team norms that encourage collaboration and minimize silos.

• Engage in the hiring process to expand the team and elevate the engineering standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years in a formal engineering management role, including experience managing senior engineers.

• Proven experience leading teams that develop developer-focused software such as SDKs, client libraries, public APIs, or open-source projects utilized by external developers.

• Familiarity with multiple programming languages and ecosystems.

• Ability to make informed judgments regarding technical trade-offs in a diverse codebase.

• Demonstrated capability to prioritize tasks across various stakeholders and collaborate with Product Management.

• Skill in translating business objectives into engineering plans with reliable time estimates.

• A history of coaching and developing senior engineers, including performance management, career development planning, and technical mentorship.

• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers.

• Understanding of observability practices and comfort in responding to production incidents.

• Experience with contributing to or maintaining open-source software is advantageous.
