This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
β’ Lead and oversee a substantial team of software engineers tasked with developing scalable infrastructure services for customer Drupal, WordPress, and Next.js sites.
β’ Navigate the team through organizational transitions, challenges, and uncertainties while sustaining productivity and team morale.
β’ Mentor, coach, and cultivate engineering talent.
β’ Manage multiple high-priority projects with changing demands, ensuring quality delivery while considering on-call responsibilities and operational implications.
β’ Align team objectives with organizational goals and advocate for advantageous changes.
β’ Facilitate architecture discussions, review essential code, provide constructive feedback, and engage in technical dialogues.
β’ Develop team and organizational objectives collaboratively with immediate team members and cross-functional stakeholders.
β’ Articulate complex technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in written form.
β’ Convert high-level objectives into actionable tasks, offer feedback, and autonomously allocate work within the team's scope.
β’ Take ownership of the health and progression of Pantheonβs largest infrastructure footprint.
β’ Over 12 years of experience in software development, with a robust foundation as a Staff or Principal engineer showcasing deep technical proficiency.
β’ More than 3 years of direct management experience, including leading large global teams, mentoring Staff engineers, and managing multiple subteams.
β’ Proven track record in driving performance management and fostering a high-performance engineering culture, establishing clear expectations, providing honest feedback, and nurturing engineers at all levels through structured growth and calibration processes.
β’ Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver multiple concurrent projects while working directly with customers and external communities.
β’ Experience in leading cloud and infrastructure modernization initiatives across extensive critical fleets.
β’ Proficient with AI coding assistants and possess insights on their impact on team operations.
β’ Strong familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or other structured development methodologies.
β’ Direct experience in designing platforms that host cloud-based applications at scale.
β’ In-depth understanding of distributed systems, scalable cloud architectures, and cloud technologies such as Kubernetes/K8S, GCP GKE, AWS ECS/EKS, Google Cloud Run, AWS Lambda, MySQL, MariaDB, Cloud SQL, Redis, and Memcached.
β’ Production experience in managing and automating extensive Linux-based fleets using Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform and dynamic provisioning systems.
β’ Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, encompassing data structures and algorithms.
β’ Familiarity with Python, Golang, or other contemporary programming languages.
