Senior Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of intricate technical challenges and feature developments, from understanding the problem and defining the approach to implementation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous enhancement.

• Work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and other stakeholders to comprehend requirements, identify dependencies, and transform user needs into technical solutions.

• Play a role in system and architecture design decisions, assessing trade-offs related to maintainability, reliability, scalability, and delivery timelines.

• Articulate technical risks, dependencies, decisions, and any changes in direction effectively.

• Analyze production issues across interconnected services and external dependencies.

• Promote a collaborative engineering culture through code reviews, design evaluations, knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and providing technical guidance.

• Persistently enhance technical expertise and gain context in unfamiliar systems and technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in software development.

• Proven experience in constructing and maintaining backend services and APIs utilizing Node.js and TypeScript.

• Background in contributing to software architecture and system design decisions.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalable software solutions.

• Strong grasp of database technologies, data modeling, and SQL.

• Familiarity with relational databases.

• Practical experience in deploying and supporting software within production environments.

• Experience with application monitoring, observability, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.

• At least 2 years of professional experience with a modern frontend framework, preferably Angular.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Capability to excel in a culture of continuous improvement and open feedback.

• Must possess legal authorization to work in the US.

• Nice to have: experience with building and maintaining event-driven or asynchronous systems using Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.

• Nice to have: familiarity with search and indexing technologies like OpenSearch.

• Nice to have: knowledge of advanced observability and telemetry, including OpenTelemetry (OTel).

• Nice to have: experience with Docker and containerized applications.

• Nice to have: experience in developing solutions hosted on AWS.

• Nice to have: knowledge of backend frameworks such as NestJS.

• Nice to have: experience in creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

• Nice to have: experience in the K-12 education technology sector.
