This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, prototype, construct, and evaluate production vehicle firmware intended for safety-critical systems.
• Develop and enhance applications within RTOS environments focusing on reliability, latency, throughput, memory usage, and power consumption.
• Take ownership and advance the communication architecture among MCUs, sensors, and main compute, utilizing both standard and custom protocols.
• Lead the initialization and troubleshooting of new boards and SoCs, including bootloaders, drivers, and low-level diagnostics.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and software developers to transition new sensor and compute platforms from prototype to production.
• Define and create automated testing frameworks and harnesses at unit, integration, and system levels.
• Mentor embedded engineers, perform code reviews, and assist in establishing engineering standards, tools, and best practices.
• Proficient in C and/or C++ for embedded systems at an expert level.
• Strong knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, TCP/UDP.
• Experience in developing within RTOS environments like PX5, embedded Linux with pthreads, QNX, VxWorks, or RTEMS.
• Familiarity with MCU bootloaders, device drivers, and the bring-up of new boards or SoCs.
• Proven experience in deploying firmware to multi-device systems or vehicles in a power-safe and fault-tolerant manner.
• Demonstrated capability in speed and size optimization for resource-constrained platforms.
• Experience with safety-critical systems and processes, such as ISO 26262 or equivalent standards, is highly regarded.
• Comprehensive understanding of the embedded software development lifecycle, including version control, code review, CI, and automated testing.
• Typically 7+ years of experience in developing embedded software for production systems, with significant involvement in safety-critical or highly reliable platforms.
• Background in automotive and/or transit domains.
• Familiarity with automotive-grade safety MCUs, preferably NXP S32K3 or similar lockstep/ASIL-rated components.
• Understanding of kernel internals and low-level operating system concepts.
• Experience with deterministic timing and networking, such as NTP, PTP, or TSN.
• Proficiency with CAN tooling and DBC-based workflows.
• Comfort with electronic testing equipment and hardware debugging.
• Experience in scripting, such as Python, for test automation and tooling.
