This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Formulate and implement strategies while advising senior leadership and the organization on litigation, policy engagement, and advocacy related to laws, regulations, and trends influencing the pharmaceutical sector.
• Identify and evaluate potential affirmative litigation and advocacy prospects to further Lilly’s policy goals.
• Provide litigation guidance to Government Affairs, Communications, Regulatory Affairs, and Lilly Value and Access departments.
• Compose and assess communications, comment letters, and associated documentation.
• Oversee litigation, government investigations, and other disputes from strategy formulation to resolution.
• Lead and manage external legal counsel, including the development and supervision of budgets.
• Coordinate internal initiatives to achieve results within budgetary constraints.
• Engage with government bodies, state attorneys general, trade associations, the industry, and external policy and legal networks.
• Foster and sustain relationships across Lilly’s legal and business divisions.
• Monitor and evaluate litigation, enforcement, and policy changes impacting drug pricing, access, and reimbursement.
• Report directly to the Associate Vice President, Assistant General Counsel – Litigation, Legal Policy & Strategy.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Bachelor’s degree.
• Active legal practice license.
• Completion of a clerkship at a federal court of appeals.
• At least 8 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including managing intricate litigation and formulating and executing strategies at a global corporation and/or a top law firm.
• Proven success in complex litigation at both trial and appellate levels, encompassing discovery, dispositive motions, trial proceedings, and briefing and arguing appeals.
• Experience in litigating constitutional claims, statutory and regulatory challenges, and Administrative Procedure Act (APA) matters.
• Demonstrated proficiency in engaging with complex policy topics.
• Ability to quickly grasp complex new subject matters and exercise sound judgment.
• Strong client-service focus and executive presence.
• Sound judgment, composure, and clarity to counsel senior leaders and credibly represent the Legal function.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and capability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Lilly will not provide sponsorship for work authorization or visas.
• Experience in litigating class actions and matters related to Medicare, Medicaid, 340B, Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), and the False Claims Act (additional skills/preferences).
• Experience managing litigation within the pharmaceutical sector or another highly regulated industry (additional skills/preferences).
• Passion for utilizing artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to enhance litigation and practice effectiveness (additional skills/preferences).
• Proven leadership and effectiveness in collaboration with senior leadership (additional skills/preferences).
• Good judgment and meticulous attention to detail (additional skills/preferences).
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence others (additional skills/preferences).
