This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the operational accounting function, ensuring timely monthly and quarterly closes, maintaining GL integrity, managing sub-ledger architecture, and overseeing the systems that support them. Design the function for first-audit readiness and the subsequent year.
• Spearhead the ERP migration initiative. Collaborate with the CAO on platform selection (including NetSuite, Rillet, Everest, and others currently under evaluation), and lead the implementation from start to finish.
• Manage the team responsible for operational accounting, which includes close/GL, AP, AR, payroll, and accounting systems. Mentor the managers in your team, recruit the next layer of leadership, and set high standards for the function.
• Operationalize technical accounting in collaboration with the Director of Technical Accounting. Equip the GL and sub-ledgers for ASC 718, 606, 842, 340, and 805. Your role is to build the system that enables policy execution, rather than writing the policy itself.
• Ensure the successful delivery of the Year-1 audit. Establish the PBC delivery process, embed accounting policies within the system, and support the defense of the opening balance sheet. While the CAO maintains the partner relationship, you will oversee the system that facilitates fieldwork.
• Create a robust SOX control environment by designing the operational control framework from the ground up in anticipation of an IPO, focusing on effectiveness without excessive burden.
• Drive the AI-native transformation of operational accounting, ensuring that the system becomes more user-friendly as the company expands.
• Adapt and grow with the function. As responsibilities broaden, embrace greater leadership in accounting, including succession planning, cross-functional finance collaboration, and providing board-level support to the CAO.
• A minimum of 12 years of accounting experience, with at least 6 years in a senior operational role within a high-growth organization; pre-IPO or recently public experience is preferred.
• Proven experience guiding a company through its first-ever audit, not just its first audit with a new firm.
• Direct, hands-on experience leading an ERP migration from start to finish at a significant scale.
• A strong track record of designing an operational accounting function rather than merely managing one. You have made architectural decisions that define the future of the team.
• Operational proficiency in ASC 718, 606, and 842—understanding what the GL and sub-ledgers must deliver, rather than merely authoring policies.
• Experience establishing SOX compliance from the ground up.
• Demonstrated experience incorporating AI practices into a functional accounting team—your team members utilize AI regularly, not just you.
• Experience in managing managers and nurturing senior leaders under your guidance. Multi-entity exposure is relevant as our organization expands.
• CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Comprehensive health coverage.
• Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
• Annual wellness stipend.
• Mental health support.
• Life, STD, and LTD income insurance plans.
• Unlimited paid time off (PTO).
• Generous paid parental leave.
• Flexible work schedule.
• 12 paid company holidays in the United States.
• Quarterly stipend for personal productivity.
• One-time stipend for home office enhancements.
• 401(k) plan with company matching.
• Tax savings programs.
• Learning and education stipend.
• Opportunities to participate in talks and conferences.
• Employee resource groups.
• AI enablement workshops and sessions.
