Senior Design Manager, Data Centers

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee the coordination and integration of design efforts for mission-critical data center projects.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of architects, engineers, consultants, and specialty system designers.

• Lead design coordination meetings and technical workshops.

• Assess and confirm the completeness, accuracy, compliance with standards, and alignment with data center requirements of design deliverables.

• Manage schedules, milestones, scope alterations, and documentation from concept through to commissioning support with design partners.

• Coordinate essential requirements for power, cooling, telecommunications, redundancy, maintainability, security, fire protection, and high-density computing.

• Direct the implementation of BIM execution plans, federated models, coordination sessions, clash detection, model quality control, version management, and digital collaboration processes.

• Create coordinated 3D models, clash detection reports, sequencing drawings, and maintenance access studies.

• Oversee the entire design RFI lifecycle and evaluate RFI trends.

• Collaborate with construction teams to clarify design intentions and resolve field-related issues.

• Facilitate design reviews, constructability evaluations, value engineering, and shop drawing and submittal reviews.

• Generate design status reports, coordination documentation, and technical presentations.

• Cultivate relationships with clients, operators, commissioning agents, internal teams, and external design partners.

• Mentor junior design coordinators and assist in the professional development of the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural), Construction Management, or a related technical field.

• 7–10 years of progressive experience in design coordination and BIM management, with a minimum of 5 years in mission-critical or data center projects.

• Proven experience leading design coordination on large-scale, complex construction projects with budgets exceeding $50 million.

• Extensive knowledge of data center design principles, critical infrastructure systems, and mission-critical operational needs.

• Advanced proficiency in BIM software platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, Procore, or equivalent, along with 3D coordination tools.

• Experience in directing BIM coordination workflows, advanced clash detection processes, and model-based construction planning.

• Familiarity with data center construction documentation, specialized installation techniques, and commissioning sequences.

• Background in managing intricate design RFI workflows and technical documentation processes for critical facilities.

• Capability to lead the resolution of complex technical coordination issues.

• Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, attention-to-detail, and systems-thinking abilities.

• Excellent communication skills with multidisciplinary teams.

• Expertise in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage design drawings.
