Senior DBA – Database Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, manage, and enhance enterprise MySQL database platforms.

• Engineer and uphold solutions for replication, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.

• Perform routine recovery testing.

• Create production-quality code and automate processes for database provisioning, deployments, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and monitoring.

• Develop and sustain Infrastructure as Code utilizing Terraform through GitHub and CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.

• Establish and monitor SLOs and implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to assess database health and performance.

• Oversee production incident responses, root-cause analyses, and conduct blameless postmortems.

• Introduce preventative measures and self-service automation.

• Utilize GitHub Copilot tools to assist with coding, troubleshooting, testing, and documentation while reviewing AI-generated content.

• Resolve issues across databases, Linux, Kubernetes, networking, storage, and cloud infrastructure.

• Collaborate with application teams on schema design, query performance, capacity planning, and safe database modifications.

• Spearhead database modernization projects, including migrations to cloud-native architectures and managed services.

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth expertise in MySQL administration, including replication, backup and recovery, high availability, and performance tuning.

• Proficient Linux administration and troubleshooting capabilities across databases, infrastructure, networking, and cloud environments.

• Competence in developing, testing, and maintaining production-quality code and automation using languages such as Python, Go, Java, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or similar.

• Practical experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.

• Familiarity with Git workflows, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.

• Experience in managing databases within cloud environments.

• Understanding of SRE practices, including SLOs, observability, incident management, postmortems, and automation.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools like GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, or Copilot in VS Code.

• Solid grounding in networking principles, including DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls, SSL/TLS, and virtual networking.

• Preferred experience in supporting databases on VMs or Kubernetes.

• Experience in creating AI-assisted or agent-driven automation workflows is a plus.

• Microsoft Azure experience is preferred.
