This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, and manage database systems utilizing MySQL, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery, mainly on the Google Cloud Platform.
• Ensure optimal performance, uptime, and security within LOCALiQ's production database framework.
• Safeguard data and maintain its integrity, including backup procedures, recovery protocols, and disaster recovery testing.
• Conduct regular database tasks such as upgrades, patching, schema modifications, replication management, and capacity planning.
• Diagnose and improve slow queries, blocking issues, and replication challenges in collaboration with application teams.
• Evaluate database modifications to reduce deployment risks, and assist teams in designing scalable schemas and access methodologies.
• Streamline recurring operational tasks through scripting, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Engage in a scheduled 24x7 on-call rotation alongside other team members.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, analysts, and data scientists to ensure data platforms remain efficient, secure, and accessible.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Database Engineer, Database Administrator, or in a similar position.
• Practical experience in managing production database infrastructure within a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Proficient understanding of relational databases—MySQL and/or PostgreSQL—including administration, replication, and backup/recovery processes.
• Strong SQL capabilities, with the ability to read, write, and enhance complex queries.
• Programming experience in at least one language—Python preferred, but knowledge of Go, Java, Ruby, or similar languages is also valuable.
• Familiarity with Git version control and collaborative coding practices.
• Sound judgment regarding change management, risk assessment, and data integrity in production environments.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• A sense of curiosity, self-motivation, and a tendency towards automating repetitive tasks.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially Cloud SQL, BigQuery, GKE, and Pub/Sub; AWS experience with RDS, Redshift, EKS, and SQS is also welcome.
• Familiarity with BigQuery or other cloud data warehouses, focusing on cost and performance optimization.
• Experience with data modeling and data transformation tools such as Dataform or DBT.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform), containers, and CI/CD methodologies including test automation and automated deployments.
• Comfort working within an Agile/Scrum framework.
• Familiarity with digital marketing or online advertising data (SEO/SEM) is a plus.
