Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Analyze extensive network telemetry to uncover behavioral patterns, anomalies, and indicators linked to malicious activities.

• Design, develop, and enhance machine learning and AI methodologies that support ExtraHop products.

• Create evaluation techniques for cybersecurity data, addressing challenges such as imbalanced datasets, incomplete labels, rare events, and evolving attacker and network behaviors.

• Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model development, and error analysis utilizing complex, high-volume datasets.

• Investigate emerging machine learning and AI methodologies alongside relevant advancements in cybersecurity.

• Evaluate the applicability of research and techniques to enhance ExtraHop products.

• Establish metrics and monitoring strategies to track model and detector performance over time.

• Convey findings, limitations, trade-offs, and recommendations to technical stakeholders and product leaders.

• Offer technical leadership and mentorship through code reviews, design discussions, technical strategy, and analytical and engineering standards.

• Document methodologies, experiments, model behaviors, and evaluation outcomes.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested production-quality code.

• Collaborate with data scientists, threat researchers, and software engineers to transform research and prototypes into dependable product capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 7 years of professional experience in data science.

• Proven experience in developing and evaluating machine learning models for real-world applications.

• Expertise in defining meaningful success metrics and conducting thorough offline and online evaluations.

• Strong grounding in statistics, experimental design, machine learning, and model evaluation.

• Familiarity with incomplete, noisy, or significantly imbalanced data.

• Experience in performing in-depth error analysis and identifying reasons for false positives and false negatives.

• Proficient in Python and SQL.

• Skilled in using common data science and machine learning libraries.

• Capability to write maintainable, tested, and reviewable code.

• Experience collaborating with software engineers to incorporate data science methods into production systems.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen intellectual curiosity.

• Proven record of independently managing complex technical projects.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to articulate technical findings, uncertainties, and trade-offs to diverse audiences.
