Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +8 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop data workflows in accordance with design specifications while executing complex development tasks.

• Create and code features, automated tests, scripts, and data models utilizing data management and governance tools.

• Suggest and apply technical data products and solutions that meet business requirements.

• Engage in system architecture and design discussions while collaborating with technical leadership.

• Establish and maintain enterprise-class data capabilities through robust pipelines and scalable cloud-based data solutions.

• Design and implement intricate, multi-tier cloud-native data solutions and integration services.

• Develop batch, near real-time, and API-based data integrations.

• Design and assist in prototypes, proofs of concept, and scalable data solutions.

• Execute metadata management, master data policies, data quality standards, lineage, and governance practices.

• Organize and direct data curation policies across various platforms and workflows.

• Support, mentor, and coordinate small to medium-sized data engineering teams.

• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and leadership on technology roadmaps, cloud modernization, and future data platform strategies.

• Contribute to coding standards, CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality initiatives.

• Ensure monitoring and observability for pipeline performance and reliability.

• Leverage automation and AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot.

• Work alongside architecture, governance, security, and platform engineering teams.

• Present technical topics, facilitate solution discussions, communicate recommendations and trade-offs, and mentor engineers.

• Carry out responsibilities in line with BECU competencies, compliance, regulatory, and Information Protection requirements.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering.

• Minimum of 4 years of proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, and SQL.

• Proven experience with cloud technologies including Azure, AWS, or GCP.

• Demonstrated experience with modern data platforms like Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, BigQuery, or Snowflake.

• Experience with ETL/ELT processes, SQL, cloud data integration tools, and Azure Services such as Airflow, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Event Hubs, Azure Storage, Azure Functions, Container Apps, and API Management.

• Familiarity with SQL, data modeling, data warehousing, data analysis, and enterprise-scale ODS, data warehouses, and data lake/Lakehouse solutions.

• Experience in CI/CD systems and tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub.

• Proficiency in Git, including code reviews, pull requests, and branching standards like Git Flow or Trunk-Based Development.

• Leading design discussions within teams to enhance long-term solution design.

• Knowledge of financial services industry concepts, regulations, and data domains.

• Experience in building AI-ready data products and supporting AI agent architectures.

• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Copilot Studio, AI Foundry, MCP integrations, or related AI technologies.

• Experience with master data management, metadata, data quality, data lineage, impact analysis, data cataloging, and governance tools.

• Background in Test Driven Development, unit testing, integration testing, or performance/load testing.

• Ability to deliver highly scalable data solutions throughout the data lifecycle.

• Capacity to keep up-to-date with emerging technologies.

• Experience leading and collaborating with teams throughout all phases of the SDLC and AI best practices.

• Skilled in presenting to technically proficient audiences.
