Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Provide support for hyperscale data center construction initiatives as a mechanical engineer.

• Specialize in the design of new hyperscale data center facilities.

• Assist operations personnel with engineering solutions.

• Facilitate the resolution of construction-related issues.

• Oversee multiple real estate projects from inception to completion, encompassing planning, design, construction, occupancy, and closeout.

• Collaborate closely with clients to define scope of work, resource needs, cost estimates and budgets, timelines, quality assurance, and risk management.

• Review and support the technical development of airside and waterside mechanical systems.

• Conduct campus planning, general layouts, CFD and noise modeling, climate data assessments, hydraulic analyses, pipe sizing, and bin hour evaluations.

• Supervise A/E design consultants and provide guidance or escalate issues following engineering standards.

• Perform peer reviews of design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, operational sequences, calculations, and models.

• Evaluate and provide insights on value engineering opportunities.

• Analyze redundancies, failure modes, and single points of failure in collaboration with RAM modelers.

• Create rapid conceptual sketches utilizing CAD or BIM.

• Collaborate with construction, design, and change management teams to address engineering issues originating from construction.

• Develop engineering bulletins and route design modifications through established protocols when necessary.

• Promote standard design enhancement processes across products, design, construction, and operations.

• Visit construction or operational sites as required.

• Create presentations that communicate findings, assessments, and options to internal stakeholders.

• Contribute to the development of new products, processes, standards, and operational strategies.

• Articulate complex concepts and influence stakeholders effectively.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree is preferred, with 8-10 years of relevant experience.

• In the absence of a degree, a combination of education and experience will be taken into account.

• At least 2 years of experience in data center construction is required.

• Proven experience collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, electrical, and architectural disciplines.

• An innovative mindset to develop solutions that extend beyond existing methodologies.

• Capability to address unique challenges using both standard and inventive solutions that have a significant business impact.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Strong understanding of large-scale data center mechanical infrastructure, particularly in cooling and fire protection systems.

• Ability to work independently while remote.

• Willingness to travel to construction sites with minimal supervision.

• Experience with data center projects both domestically and internationally is highly preferred.

• Exceptional organizational skills complemented by an advanced inquisitive approach.

• Experience with waterless cooling technologies is preferred but not mandatory.
