Senior Data Architect – Fabric

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Facilitate discovery workshops to identify business priorities, source systems, data volumes, security needs, and operational constraints.

• Convert discovery insights into actionable architecture and phased implementation strategies.

• Create Microsoft Fabric environments, addressing tenant and capacity considerations, workspace organization, development and production separation, and ownership and support responsibilities.

• Define OneLake architecture, along with Lakehouse and Warehouse patterns, medallion layers, data organization, shortcuts, mirroring, and data movement.

• Choose ingestion, transformation, and orchestration methods utilizing Fabric Data Factory, Dataflow Gen2, Spark notebooks, and relevant Azure services.

• Develop data models and curated data products for reporting, Power BI semantic models, analytics, AI, and machine learning applications.

• Collaborate with client teams to establish security and governance, including Microsoft Entra ID, access controls, data ownership, lineage, classification, and Microsoft Purview integration.

• Set standards for Git, CI/CD, deployment, testing, monitoring, recovery, and performance and capacity management.

• Validate key architectural decisions through hands-on implementation.

• Oversee technical delivery and architecture evaluations.

• Provide mentorship to engineers.

• Collaborate with pursuit and delivery teams on scope, estimates, dependencies, and implementation risks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in designing and delivering enterprise data platforms.

• Experience in technical leadership and direct client engagement.

• Proven track record of architecting and implementing Microsoft Fabric in production environments.

• Strong practical knowledge of OneLake, Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse, Fabric Data Factory, Spark notebooks, and Delta Lake.

• In-depth experience with the Microsoft Azure data platform, including Azure Data Factory, ADLS Gen2, and Azure SQL.

• Ability to design integrations between Azure and Fabric.

• Hands-on expertise with SQL and Python or PySpark.

• Strong skills in data modeling, ETL/ELT, and dimensional modeling.

• Experience in designing security, governance, deployment, and operational practices.

• Sound judgment regarding performance, cost, and maintainability.

• Proficient in leading workshops, documenting architecture decisions, guiding delivery teams, and interpreting technical options in terms of business implications.

• Valued additional experience with Microsoft Purview, Power BI semantic models and Direct Lake, Azure Databricks, or Azure Synapse migration.

• Familiarity with Fabric capacity planning and monitoring, Real-Time Intelligence, or enterprise ERP and SaaS integrations.

• Relevant Microsoft certifications are preferred, such as Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate or Fabric Data Engineer Associate.

• Excellent communication skills with both technical and business audiences.

• Ability to articulate trade-offs and establish trust with clients.
