Senior Data Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete insights pipeline for both internal and external data requests, managing everything from scoping to execution and delivery.

• Coordinate request intake and project tracking systems utilizing platforms such as Zendesk, HubSpot, and Asana.

• Act as the primary contact for media and partner data requests, providing clarity on scope, deliverables, and timelines.

• Perform descriptive and exploratory analyses on sheltering data.

• Generate tailored insights for press, internal inquiries, peer-reviewed publications, and seasonal reports.

• Develop documents, summary tables, and data visualizations to cater to diverse audiences.

• Write analytical scripts in SQL, Python, or R and ensure proper documentation is maintained.

• Design self-service dashboards and automate data analysis workflows.

• Cultivate relationships across teams and with external partners.

• Create reports, dashboards, and monitoring tools to ensure data quality and observability.

• Investigate data quality incidents and anomalies; lead the quality triage and escalation process.

• Assist in improving machine learning models through data preparation, validation, model runs, and summarizing results.

• Adhere to data governance policies, business rules, definitions, and quality assurance standards.

• Incorporate and assess third-party macroeconomic, demographic, and community data.

• Optimize and automate manual processes.

• Document data quality concerns, decisions made, and known limitations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree is required.

• At least 4 years of experience in data analysis, data management, data reporting, or applied research is necessary.

• Experience within the animal welfare sector, specifically working with sheltering data, is required.

• Familiarity with sheltering data in shelter management software like PetPoint, Chameleon, Shelterluv, ShelterBuddy, or comparable tools is essential.

• Experience in managing structured intake and project tracking systems is required.

• Proficiency in SQL and either Python or R is needed.

• Knowledge and experience with data visualization and dashboard tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar are necessary.

• Understanding of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques is required.

• Proven ability to communicate and present to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential.

• Experience with animal welfare data collection, animal sheltering software, and animal shelter data analysis is required.

• Proficiency in English is mandatory.

• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually is necessary.

• Ability to work typically Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, with flexibility for early mornings, evenings, and weekends is required.

• An advanced degree in statistics, data science, data analytics, or a related quantitative field is preferred, or equivalent work experience.

• Experience in enhancing supervised learning and forecasting models is a plus.

• Familiarity with or enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Copilot is advantageous.
