Senior Cost Manager – Quantity Surveyor, Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Assist in a large-scale, multi-phase construction initiative in Southern New Mexico.

• Act as a primary stakeholder liaison throughout the project lifecycle.

• Estimate and negotiate change orders across various project phases and work packages.

• Provide cost estimates and planning, including the creation and presentation of final cost plans.

• Collaborate with the design services team and general contractor to review and contribute to cost estimate development.

• Reconcile changes and verify data provided by the general contractor.

• Meet with the general contractor, project manager, and stakeholders to collect status updates and prepare estimate revisions.

• Draft written comments and executive summaries regarding contractor submissions.

• Coordinate cost information from suppliers, subcontractors, quantities, and design teams.

• Inform engineering priorities based on cost implications.

• Proactively resolve scheduling challenges with minimal supervision.

• Oversee cost checks, valuations, cost impact assessments, contingency management, and commitment tracking.

• Prepare funding data presentations and facilitate value engineering sessions.

• Develop and refine cost plans and estimates throughout design milestones.

• Offer commercial insights for design optioneering and value engineering.

• Evaluate contractor and subcontractor pricing and lead negotiations from the client's perspective.

• Carry out quantity surveying, cost control, and change management activities.

• Manage cost variances, change control, cost auditing, valuation, and cost validation processes.

• Generate monthly cost reports for client presentations.

• Negotiate and finalize accounts promptly.

• Compile built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.

• Identify, coach, and mentor talent.

• Provide leadership and ensure service delivery aligns with appointment conditions.

• Monitor commission margins, fee/resource forecasts, and financial reports using internal software.

• Implement internal business management systems, delivery methodologies, and tools.

• Foster a unified business culture and adhere to relevant SOX controls.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.

• A minimum of 5–7 years of pertinent cost management experience in the construction sector.

• Proven experience in leading cost management for medium to large, moderately to highly complex construction projects.

• Preference for candidates with construction consultancy experience.

• RICS accreditation or active progress towards it is preferred.

• Strong understanding of construction technicalities, procurement methods, value management, and value engineering.

• Experience in supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or campus-style construction projects is preferred.

• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.

• Capability to function in a client-facing role.

• Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision while collaborating with project teams and stakeholders.

• Willingness to travel occasionally to the project site.

• On-site presence and requirements may vary based on client needs.
