Senior Cost Manager – Quantity Surveyor, Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary client-facing lead for cost management on a large-scale, mission-critical data center initiative.

• Create and sustain comprehensive cost plans and estimates throughout the design and delivery phases.

• Generate and deliver monthly cost reports, executive summaries, and financial data.

• Gather cost-related information from design teams, general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors for validation and auditing purposes.

• Assemble constructed cost records for benchmarking and ongoing improvements.

• Oversee procurement strategies, pricing assessments, scope validation, and commercial negotiations.

• Manage final accounts and ensure timely agreements.

• Handle change control processes, including reviewing, estimating, negotiating, and reconciling change orders.

• Assist in cost risk assessments, scenario planning, contingency management, and commitment tracking.

• Maintain cost control systems, incorporating EVM where applicable.

• Integrate cost with schedule and scope in collaboration with project controls and scheduling teams.

• Propel engineering priorities through cost impact analyses and lead value engineering and cost optimization efforts.

• Keep abreast of market trends and provide valuable insights.

• Serve as the primary client liaison and prepare executive-level updates and revisions of cost estimates.

• Ensure compliance with business management systems and delivery methodologies.

• Mentor junior team members.

• Manage profit margins and forecast monthly fees/resources.

• Comply with relevant SOX controls.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• 5–7+ years of experience in cost management for mission-critical data center projects.

• Proficiency in cost planning, forecasting, change management, procurement, and project controls.

• Strong preference for experience within construction consultancy.

• Familiarity with MEP systems, resilience considerations, and hyperscale campus-scale infrastructure.

• Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, cost control systems, and Earned Value Management (EVM).

• Expertise in procurement strategies and the commercial management of contractor/vendor agreements.

• RICS accreditation or progress toward certification is a plus.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, along with meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficiency in industry-standard cost management tools and software.

• Ability to work efficiently in a remote setting while collaborating with onsite teams.

• Willingness to travel to Frederick, Maryland, for key project activities, approximately 3–4 days onsite each month.
