Senior Cost Manager – Quantity Surveyor, Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients while delivering enhanced cost management services.

• Provide guidance and direction that aligns with Turner & Townsend’s mission, values, and vision.

• Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction process.

• Create and present comprehensive final cost plans and estimates.

• Participate in and review the development of cost estimates by design teams and general contractors.

• Reconcile changes and validate contractor cost information.

• Collect project status updates and prepare revisions to cost estimates.

• Draft written feedback on contractor submissions, including executive summaries.

• Coordinate cost-related information from NPA, subcontractors, architects, and engineers.

• Advise on engineering priorities based on cost implications.

• Oversee cost checks, valuations, cost controls, and change management processes.

• Manage logs for contingencies, cost impacts, and commitments.

• Prepare presentations for funding data and facilitate value-engineering sessions.

• Develop and refine cost plans and estimates at key design milestones.

• Offer commercial insights into design optioneering and value-engineering initiatives.

• Review pricing from contractors and subcontractors while leading negotiations on behalf of clients.

• Manage post-contract cost variances and the change-control process.

• Establish strong processes for cost auditing, valuation, and validation.

• Generate monthly cost reports for client presentations.

• Negotiate and finalize accounts.

• Compile built-cost estimates for benchmarking purposes.

• Mentor and coach emerging talent.

• Monitor commission margins, fees, resource forecasts, and financial reports using internal software tools.

• Implement and sustain internal business management systems, methodologies, and tools for delivery.

• Support SOX control responsibilities as applicable.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related construction field.

• At least 5–7 years of pertinent experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.

• RICS accreditation or progress towards it is preferred.

• Experience in leading cost management for medium or large construction projects with moderate to high complexity.

• Strongly preferred experience in construction consultancy.

• Solid understanding of technical aspects of the construction industry, including procurement methods, value management, and value engineering.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

• Experience in client-facing roles.

• Ability to take proactive initiative with minimal supervision.
