This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico, +2 more countries.
• Take ownership of the job cost accounting process for structural steel, fabrication, miscellaneous metals, railing, and stair tower lines.
• Evaluate estimated versus actual labor hours and material costs by job and piece mark; investigate and report any discrepancies.
• Monitor man-hours per ton and productivity trends in relation to bid assumptions.
• Oversee material cost variances, particularly the volatility of steel prices against fixed-price bids.
• Develop and enhance standard costs and cost allocation methodologies across various cost centers.
• Prepare and manage monthly Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Analyze over/under billings and proactively alert leadership to any margin erosion.
• Lead the cost analysis of change orders and ensure timely capture of costs.
• Collaborate with project managers to provide project forecasts and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Generate project profitability reports and management dashboards.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and bid-margin analysis.
• Supply cost insights to estimating and operations to enhance future bidding processes.
• Monitor backlog, Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), retention receivable, and cash gaps resulting from financing steel purchases against slow receivables.
• Act as the finance lead in extracting and reconciling cost, labor, and material data from Tekla PowerFab.
• Drive enhancements to job-costing processes and integration of PowerFab with General Ledger (GL).
• Strengthen internal controls related to project accounting.
• Ensure adherence to GAAP and construction-specific accounting standards.
• Assist with external audits, surety/bonding requirements, and OCIP/Non-OCIP insurance reporting.
• Mentor and review the work of junior accounting staff.
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CPA, CMA, or Chartered Accountant designation is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in construction, steel fabrication, or manufacturing cost accounting.
• Proven expertise in job costing and percentage-of-completion/WIP accounting.
• Experience in supporting surety/bonding and audit processes.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including complex models, pivot tables, and data analysis).
• Strong knowledge of construction/job-cost accounting software (such as Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar); experience with Tekla PowerFab is a significant advantage.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
• Capability to translate cost data into actionable insights for non-financial leaders.
• Ownership mentality and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong collaborative skills with shop, field, and project management teams.
• Leadership and mentoring capabilities.
• Sound judgment when handling confidential financial information.
• Opportunity to work remotely Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours a week (no weekends required).
