Senior Compiler Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain custom Rust-to-GPU compiler backends, encompassing rustc codegen backends and procedural macros.

• Create Rust-native intermediate representation frameworks to convert standard Rust into CUDA PTX and machine code.

• Transform Rust AST and MIR into MLIR, PTX, LLVM, and other intermediate representations, incorporating GPU-specific optimizations.

• Develop tools for ahead-of-time, just-in-time, and link-time optimization workflows aimed at NVIDIA GPUs, host platforms, and their respective feature sets.

• Design compiler-enforced safety models that extend Rust's ownership, borrowing, and lifetime disciplines across the GPU launch boundary.

• Implement type-safe Rust abstractions for shared memory, barriers, scoped atomics, Tensor Memory Accelerator, and operations at the warp/cluster level.

• Create composable components for future accelerated computing applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 5 years of pertinent work or research experience in compiler development, language design, or GPU code generation.

• Extensive knowledge of the Rust programming language, including its compiler internals (rustc), Rust MIR, procedural macros, and Rust's borrow-checker/lifetime model.

• Practical experience with compiler infrastructures, intermediate representations (IRs), and code generation techniques, such as LLVM IR, MLIR, or custom IR systems.

• Strong comprehension of parallel programming models, GPU architectures, and CUDA programming.

• Excellent software design capabilities, including debugging, profiling, and benchmarking for compilers and GPU kernels.

• Ability to coordinate efforts for product requirement design, architecture, code development, testing, code review, and issue resolution.

• Capacity to work independently, establish project goals and scope, and lead intricate compiler-engineering initiatives from research to production.
