This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +30 more states.
β’ Conduct intricate professional coding for specialty or multi-specialty physician practices.
β’ Review medical records to confirm appropriate clinical diagnoses and procedure codes.
β’ Implement nationally recognized coding guidelines and reimbursement protocols.
β’ Collaborate with medical providers to clarify any missing or insufficient record information.
β’ Assign ICD-CM and CPT-4 codes for precise APC designation.
β’ Address NCCI edits and reconcile charges as necessary.
β’ Abstract diagnoses, procedure codes, and relevant information into electronic medical records.
β’ Seek out missing information to ensure comprehensive records.
β’ Ensure quality assurance for medical records and adherence to regulatory standards.
β’ Generate daily and monthly reports and compile medical record data.
β’ Identify validation edits and issues requiring revision.
β’ Recognize complex diagnoses and procedures, making necessary coding adjustments.
β’ Mentor junior staff and act as a subject matter expert.
β’ Lead or engage in training, onboarding, and coding round-table discussions.
β’ Operate independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
β’ Interpret coding guidelines and LCDs before escalating complex issues.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of experience in Cardiology Complex Coding, preferably in Surgical Cardiology.
β’ At least 3 years of recent and consistent coding work history.
β’ Preferred experience in specialty Cardiology coding.
β’ Active CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT certification through AAPC or AHIMA; more than CPC-A level is required.
β’ Over five years of specialized, complex professional coding experience in clinical specialty areas.
β’ Advanced knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles.
β’ Capability to work independently with accountability and high-quality performance.
β’ Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
β’ Meticulous attention to detail.
β’ Proficiency in working effectively and efficiently in a remote environment using common office software, coding tools, and abstracting systems.
β’ High school diploma/GED or equivalent practical knowledge and specialized formal training equivalent to a two-year certification course, or an Associateβs degree in a related healthcare field.
