Senior Coder – Surgical Cardiology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +30 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct intricate professional coding for specialty or multi-specialty physician practices.

• Review medical records to confirm appropriate clinical diagnoses and procedure codes.

• Implement nationally recognized coding guidelines and reimbursement protocols.

• Collaborate with medical providers to clarify any missing or insufficient record information.

• Assign ICD-CM and CPT-4 codes for precise APC designation.

• Address NCCI edits and reconcile charges as necessary.

• Abstract diagnoses, procedure codes, and relevant information into electronic medical records.

• Seek out missing information to ensure comprehensive records.

• Ensure quality assurance for medical records and adherence to regulatory standards.

• Generate daily and monthly reports and compile medical record data.

• Identify validation edits and issues requiring revision.

• Recognize complex diagnoses and procedures, making necessary coding adjustments.

• Mentor junior staff and act as a subject matter expert.

• Lead or engage in training, onboarding, and coding round-table discussions.

• Operate independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

• Interpret coding guidelines and LCDs before escalating complex issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Cardiology Complex Coding, preferably in Surgical Cardiology.

• At least 3 years of recent and consistent coding work history.

• Preferred experience in specialty Cardiology coding.

• Active CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT certification through AAPC or AHIMA; more than CPC-A level is required.

• Over five years of specialized, complex professional coding experience in clinical specialty areas.

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles.

• Capability to work independently with accountability and high-quality performance.

• Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.

• Meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficiency in working effectively and efficiently in a remote environment using common office software, coding tools, and abstracting systems.

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent practical knowledge and specialized formal training equivalent to a two-year certification course, or an Associate’s degree in a related healthcare field.
